Narrated Sa`d bin Abi Waqqas: `Umar bin Al-Khattab asked the permission of Allah's Apostle to see him while some Quraishi women were sitting with him, talking to him and asking him for more expenses, raising their voices above the voice of Allah's Apostle. When `Umar asked for the permission to enter, the women quickly put on their veils. Allah'sf Apostle allowed him to enter and `Umar came in while Allah's Apostle was smiling, `Umar said O Allah's Apostle! May Allah always keep you smiling. The Prophet said, These women who have been here, roused my wonder, for as soon as they heard your voice, they quickly put on their veils. `Umar said, O Allah's Apostle! You have more right to be feared by them than I. Then `Umar addressed the women saying, O enemies of yourselves! You fear me more than you do Allah's Apostle ? They said, Yes, for you are harsher and sterner than Allah's Apostle. Then Allah's Apostle said, O Ibn Al-Khattab! By Him in Whose Hands my life is! Never does Satan find you going on a way, but he takes another way other than yours.

حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ، عَنْ صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي عَبْدُ الْحَمِيدِ ، أَنَّ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ سَعْدٍ أَخْبَرَهُ , أَنَّ أَبَاهُ ، قَالَ . ح حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ ، عَنْ صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَعْدِ بْنِ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : اسْتَأْذَنَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَعِنْدَهُ نِسْوَةٌ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ يُكَلِّمْنَهُ وَيَسْتَكْثِرْنَهُ عَالِيَةً أَصْوَاتُهُنَّ عَلَى صَوْتِهِ , فَلَمَّا اسْتَأْذَنَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ قُمْنَ فَبَادَرْنَ الْحِجَابَ , فَأَذِنَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , فَدَخَلَ عُمَرُ وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَضْحَكُ ، فَقَالَ عُمَرُ : أَضْحَكَ اللَّهُ سِنَّكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : عَجِبْتُ مِنْ هَؤُلَاءِ اللَّاتِي كُنَّ عِنْدِي فَلَمَّا سَمِعْنَ صَوْتَكَ ابْتَدَرْنَ الْحِجَابَ ، فَقَالَ عُمَرُ : فَأَنْتَ أَحَقُّ أَنْ يَهَبْنَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ عُمَرُ : يَا عَدُوَّاتِ أَنْفُسِهِنَّ أَتَهَبْنَنِي وَلَا تَهَبْنَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقُلْنَ : نَعَمْ أَنْتَ أَفَظُّ وَأَغْلَظُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : إِيهًا يَا ابْنَ الْخَطَّابِ وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ مَا لَقِيَكَ الشَّيْطَانُ سَالِكًا فَجًّا قَطُّ إِلَّا سَلَكَ فَجًّا غَيْرَ فَجِّكَ .

ہم سے علی بن عبداللہ بن مدینی نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم سے یعقوب بن ابراہیم نے بیان کیا، کہا کہ مجھ سے میرے والد نے بیان کیا ان سے صالح نے، ان سے ابن شہاب نے، کہا مجھ کو عبدالحمید بن عبدالرحمٰن نے خبر دی، انہیں محمد بن سعد بن ابی وقاص نے خبر دی اور ان سے ان کے والد (سعد بن ابی وقاص رضی اللہ عنہ) نے بیان کیا (دوسری سند) اور مجھ سے عبدالعزیز بن عبداللہ نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم سے ابراہیم بن سعد نے بیان کیا، ان سے صالح نے، ان سے ابن شہاب نے، ان سے عبدالحمید بن عبدالرحمٰن بن زید نے، ان سے محمد بن سعد بن ابی وقاص نے اور ان سے ان کے والد نے بیان کیا کہ عمر رضی اللہ عنہ نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے اندر آنے کی اجازت چاہی۔ اس وقت آپ کے پاس قریش کی چند عورتیں ( امہات المؤمنین میں سے ) بیٹھی باتیں کر رہی تھیں اور آپ کی آواز پر اپنی آواز اونچی کرتے ہوئے آپ سے نان و نفقہ میں زیادتی کا مطالبہ کر رہی تھیں۔ جوں ہی عمر رضی اللہ عنہ نے اجازت چاہی تو وہ تمام کھڑی ہو کر پردے کے پیچھے جلدی سے بھاگ کھڑی ہوئیں۔ آخر آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے اجازت دی اور وہ داخل ہوئے تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم مسکرا رہے تھے۔ عمر رضی اللہ عنہ نے عرض کیا: یا رسول اللہ! اللہ تعالیٰ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو ہمیشہ خوش رکھے۔ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: مجھے ان عورتوں پر ہنسی آ رہی ہے جو ابھی میرے پاس بیٹھی ہوئی تھیں، لیکن تمہاری آواز سنتے ہی سب پردے کے پیچھے بھاگ گئیں۔ عمر رضی اللہ عنہ نے عرض کیا: یا رسول اللہ! ڈرنا تو انہیں آپ سے چاہیے تھا۔ پھر انہوں نے ( عورتوں سے ) کہا اے اپنی جانوں کی دشمنو! تم مجھ سے تو ڈرتی ہو اور نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے نہیں ڈرتیں، عورتوں نے کہا کہ ہاں، آپ ٹھیک کہتے ہیں۔ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے مقابلے میں آپ کہیں زیادہ سخت ہیں۔ اس پر آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: اے ابن خطاب! اس ذات کی قسم جس کے ہاتھ میں میری جان ہے، اگر شیطان تمہیں کسی راستے پر چلتا دیکھتا ہے تو اسے چھوڑ کر وہ کسی دوسرے راستے پر چل پڑتا ہے۔

Narrated Ibn `Abbas: When (the dead body of) `Umar was put on his deathbed, the people gathered around him and invoked (Allah) and prayed for him before the body was taken away, and I was amongst them. Suddenly I felt somebody taking hold of my shoulder and found out that he was `Ali bin Abi Talib. `Ali invoked Allah's Mercy for `Umar and said, O `Umar! You have not left behind you a person whose deeds I like to imitate and meet Allah with more than I like your deeds. By Allah! I always thought that Allah would keep you with your two companions, for very often I used to hear the Prophet saying, 'I, Abu Bakr and `Umar went (somewhere); I, Abu Bakr and `Umar entered (somewhere); and I, Abu Bakr and `Umar went out. '

Narrated Anas bin Malik: The Prophet ascended the mountain of Uhud and he was accompanied by Abu Bakr, `Umar and `Uthman. The mountain shook beneath them. The Prophet hit it with his foot and said, O Uhud ! Be firm, for on you there is none but a Prophet, a Siddiq and a martyr (i.e. and two martyrs).

Narrated Aslam: Ibn `Umar asked me about some matters concerning `Umar. He said, Since Allah's Apostle died. I have never seen anybody more serious, hard working and generous than `Umar bin Al-Khattab (till the end of his life.

Narrated Anas: A man asked the Prophet about the Hour (i.e. Day of Judgment) saying, When will the Hour be? The Prophet said, What have you prepared for it? The man said, Nothing, except that I love Allah and His Apostle. The Prophet said, You will be with those whom you love. We had never been so glad as we were on hearing that saying of the Prophet (i.e., You will be with those whom you love. ) Therefore, I love the Prophet, Abu Bakr and `Umar, and I hope that I will be with them because of my love for them though my deeds are not similar to theirs.

Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Apostle said, Among the nations before you there used to be people who were inspired (though they were not prophets). And if there is any of such a persons amongst my followers, it is 'Umar. Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, Among the nation of Bani Israel who lived before you, there were men who used to be inspired with guidance though they were not prophets, and if there is any of such persons amongst my followers, it is 'Umar.
