Narrated Abaya bin Rifaa: My grandfather, Rafi` bin Khadij said, We were in the valley of Dhul-Hulaifa of Tuhama in the company of the Prophet and had some camels and sheep (of the booty). The people hurried (in slaughtering the animals) and put their meat in the pots and started cooking. Allah's Apostle came and ordered them to upset the pots, and distributed the booty considering one camel as equal to ten sheep. One of the camels fled and the people had only a few horses, so they got worried. (The camel was chased and) a man slopped the camel by throwing an arrow at it. Allah's Apostle said, 'Some of these animals are untamed like wild animals, so if anyone of them went out of your control, then you should treat it as you have done now.' My grandfather said, O Allah's Apostle! We fear that we may meet our enemy tomorrow and we have no knives, could we slaughter the animals with reeds? The Prophet said, Yes, or you can use what would make blood flow (slaughter) and you can eat what is slaughtered and the Name of Allah is mentioned at the time of slaughtering. But don't use teeth or fingernails (in slaughtering). I will tell you why, as for teeth, they are bones, and fingernails are used by Ethiopians for slaughtering. (See Hadith 668)

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ ، أَخْبَرَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَبَايَةَ بْنِ رِفَاعَةَ ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ رَافِعِ بْنِ خَدِيجٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : كُنَّا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِذِي الْحُلَيْفَةِ مِنْ تِهَامَةَ ، فَأَصَبْنَا غَنَمًا وَإِبِلًا ، فَعَجِلَ الْقَوْمُ ، فَأَغْلَوْا بِهَا الْقُدُورَ ، فَجَاءَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَمَرَ بِهَا فَأُكْفِئَتْ ، ثُمَّ عَدَلَ عَشْرًا مِنَ الْغَنَمِ بِجَزُورٍ ، ثُمَّ إِنَّ بَعِيرًا نَدَّ وَلَيْسَ فِي الْقَوْمِ إِلَّا خَيْلٌ يَسِيرَةٌ ، فَرَمَاهُ رَجُلٌ فَحَبَسَهُ بِسَهْمٍ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : إِنَّ لِهَذِهِ الْبَهَائِمِ أَوَابِدَ كَأَوَابِدِ الْوَحْشِ ، فَمَا غَلَبَكُمْ مِنْهَا فَاصْنَعُوا بِهِ هَكَذَا ، قَالَ : قَالَ جَدِّي : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنَّا نَرْجُو أَوْ نَخَافُ أَنْ نَلْقَى الْعَدُوَّ غَدًا وَلَيْسَ مَعَنَا مُدًى ، فَنَذْبَحُ بِالْقَصَبِ ؟ فَقَالَ : اعْجَلْ أَوْ أَرْنِي مَا أَنْهَرَ الدَّمَ ، وَذُكِرَ اسْمُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ ، فَكُلُوا لَيْسَ السِّنَّ وَالظُّفُرَ ، وَسَأُحَدِّثُكُمْ عَنْ ذَلِكَ ، أَمَّا السِّنُّ فَعَظْمٌ ، وَأَمَّا الظُّفُرُ فَمُدَى الْحَبَشَةِ .

ہم سے محمد بن سلام نے بیان کیا، کہا کہ ہم کو وکیع نے خبر دی، انہیں سفیان ثوری نے، انہیں ان کے والد سعید بن مسروق نے، انہیں عبایہ بن رفاعہ نے اور ان سے ان کے دادا رافع بن خدیج رضی اللہ عنہ نے بیان کیا کہ ہم نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے ساتھ تہامہ کے مقام ذوالحلیفہ میں تھے ( غنیمت میں ) ہمیں بکریاں اور اونٹ ملے تھے۔ بعض لوگوں نے جلدی کی اور ( جانور ذبح کر کے ) گوشت کو ہانڈیوں میں چڑھا دیا۔ پھر رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم تشریف لائے۔ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے حکم سے گوشت کی ہانڈیوں کو الٹ دیا گیا۔ پھر ( آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے تقسیم میں ) دس بکریوں کا ایک اونٹ کے برابر حصہ رکھا۔ ایک اونٹ بھاگ کھڑا ہوا۔ قوم کے پاس گھوڑوں کی کمی تھی۔ ایک شخص نے اونٹ کو تیر مار کر روک لیا۔ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا کہ ان جانوروں میں بھی جنگی جانوروں کی طرح وحشت ہوتی ہے۔ اس لیے جب تک ان کو نہ پکڑ سکو تو تم ان کے ساتھ ہی ایسا سلوک کیا کرو۔ عبایہ نے بیان کیا کہ میرے دادا نے عرض کیا، یا رسول اللہ! ہمیں امید ہے یا خطرہ ہے کہ کہیں کل دشمن سے مڈبھیڑ نہ ہو جائے اور چھری ہمارے ساتھ نہیں ہے۔ کیا دھار دار لکڑی سے ہم ذبح کر سکتے ہیں؟ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا، لیکن ذبح کرنے میں جلدی کرو۔ جو چیز خون بہا دے ( اسی سے کاٹ ڈالو ) اگر اس پر اللہ کا نام لیا جائے تو اس کو کھاؤ اور ناخن اور دانت سے ذبح نہ کرو۔ اس کی وجہ میں بتلاتا ہوں دانت تو ہڈی ہے اور ناخن حبشیوں کی چھریاں ہیں۔

Narrated Anas: No doubt, the Prophet mortgaged his armor for barley grams. Once I took barley bread with some dissolved fat on it to the Prophet and I heard him saying, The household of Muhammad did not possess except a Sa (of food grain, barley, etc.) for both the morning and the evening meals although they were nine houses.

Narrated `Aisha: The Prophet bought some foodstuff on credit for a limited period and mortgaged his armor for it.

Narrated Jabir bin `Abdullah: Allah's Apostle said, Who would kill Ka`b bin Al-Ashraf as he has harmed Allah and His Apostle ? Muhammad bin Maslama (got up and) said, I will kill him. So, Muhammad bin Maslama went to Ka`b and said, I want a loan of one or two Wasqs of food grains. Ka`b said, Mortgage your women to me. Muhammad bin Maslama said, How can we mortgage our women, and you are the most handsome among the Arabs? He said, Then mortgage your sons to me. Muhammad said, How can we mortgage our sons, as the people will abuse them for being mortgaged for one or two Wasqs of food grains? It is shameful for us. But we will mortgage our arms to you. So, Muhammad bin Maslama promised him that he would come to him next time. They (Muhammad bin Maslama and his companions came to him as promised and murdered him. Then they went to the Prophet and told him about it.

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, One can ride the mortgaged animal because of what one spends on it, and one can drink the milk of a milch animal as long as it is mortgaged.

Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Apostle said, The mortgaged animal can be used for riding as long as it is fed and the milk of the milch animal can be drunk according to what one spend on it. The one who rides the animal or drinks its milk should provide the expenditures.
