Narrated Abu Huraira: The people say that Abu Huraira narrates too many narrations. In fact Allah knows whether I say the truth or not. They also ask, Why do the emigrants and the Ansar not narrate as he does? In fact, my emigrant brethren were busy trading in the markets, and my Ansar brethren were busy with their properties. I was a poor man keeping the company of Allah's Apostle and was satisfied with what filled my stomach. So, I used to be present while they (i.e. the emigrants and the Ansar) were absent, and I used to remember while they forgot (the Hadith). One day the Prophet said, Whoever spreads his sheet till I finish this statement of mine and then gathers it on his chest, will never forget anything of my statement. So, I spread my covering sheet which was the only garment I had, till the Prophet finished his statement and then I gathered it over my chest. By Him Who had sent him (i.e. Allah's Apostle) with the truth, since then I did not forget even a single word of that statement of his, until this day of mine. By Allah, but for two verses in Allah's Book, I would never have related any narration (from the Prophet). (These two verses are): Verily! Those who conceal the clear signs and the guidance which we have sent down .....(up to) the Merciful.' (2.159-160)

حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنِ الْأَعْرَجِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : يَقُولُونَ إِنَّ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ يُكْثِرُ الْحَدِيثَ وَاللَّهُ الْمَوْعِدُ ، وَيَقُولُونَ مَا لِلْمُهَاجِرِينَ ، وَالْأَنْصَارِ لَا يُحَدِّثُونَ مِثْلَ أَحَادِيثِهِ ، وَإِنَّ إِخْوَتِي مِنْ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ كَانَ يَشْغَلُهُمُ الصَّفْقُ بِالْأَسْوَاقِ ، وَإِنَّ إِخْوَتِي مِنْ الْأَنْصَارِ كَانَ يَشْغَلُهُمْ عَمَلُ أَمْوَالِهِمْ ، وَكُنْتُ امْرَأً مِسْكِينًا أَلْزَمُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى مِلْءِ بَطْنِي ، فَأَحْضُرُ حِينَ يَغِيبُونَ ، وَأَعِي حِينَ يَنْسَوْنَ ، وَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : يَوْمًا لَنْ يَبْسُطَ أَحَدٌ مِنْكُمْ ثَوْبَهُ حَتَّى أَقْضِيَ مَقَالَتِي هَذِهِ ، ثُمَّ يَجْمَعَهُ إِلَى صَدْرِهِ فَيَنْسَى مِنْ مَقَالَتِي شَيْئًا أَبَدًا ، فَبَسَطْتُ نَمِرَةً لَيْسَ عَلَيَّ ثَوْبٌ غَيْرُهَا حَتَّى قَضَى النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَقَالَتَهُ ، ثُمَّ جَمَعْتُهَا إِلَى صَدْرِي ، فَوَالَّذِي بَعَثَهُ بِالْحَقِّ مَا نَسِيتُ مِنْ مَقَالَتِهِ تِلْكَ إِلَى يَوْمِي هَذَا ، وَاللَّهِ لَوْلَا آيَتَانِ فِي كِتَابِ اللَّهِ مَا حَدَّثْتُكُمْ شَيْئًا أَبَدً إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَكْتُمُونَ مَا أَنْزَلْنَا مِنَ الْبَيِّنَاتِ وَالْهُدَى إِلَى قَوْلِهِ الرَّحِيمُ سورة البقرة آية 160 .

ہم سے موسیٰ بن اسماعیل نے بیان کیا کہا کہ ہم سے ابراہیم بن سعد نے بیان کیا، ان سے ابن شہاب نے، ان سے اعرج نے اور ان سے ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ نے، آپ نے فرمایا کہ لوگ کہتے ہیں ابوہریرہ بہت حدیث بیان کرتے ہیں۔ حالانکہ مجھے بھی اللہ سے ملنا ہے ( میں غلط بیانی کیسے کر سکتا ہوں ) یہ لوگ یہ بھی کہتے ہیں کہ مہاجرین اور انصار آخر اس کی طرح کیوں احادیث بیان نہیں کرتے؟ بات یہ ہے کہ میرے بھائی مہاجرین بازاروں میں خرید و فروخت میں مشغول رہا کرتے اور میرے بھائی انصار کو ان کی جائیداد ( کھیت اور باغات وغیرہ ) مشغول رکھا کرتی تھی۔ صرف میں ایک مسکین آدمی تھا۔ پیٹ بھر لینے کے بعد میں رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی خدمت ہی میں برابر حاضر رہا کرتا۔ جب یہ سب حضرات غیر حاضر رہتے تو میں حاضر ہوتا۔ اس لیے جن احادیث کو یہ یاد نہیں کر سکتے تھے، میں انہیں یاد رکھتا تھا، اور ایک دن نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا تھا کہ تم میں سے جو شخص بھی اپنے کپڑے کو میری اس تقریر کے ختم ہونے تک پھیلائے رکھے پھر ( تقریر ختم ہونے پر ) اسے اپنے سینے سے لگا لے تو وہ میری احادیث کو کبھی نہیں بھولے گا۔ میں نے اپنی کملی کو پھیلا دیا۔ جس کے سوا میرا بدن پر اور کوئی کپڑا نہیں تھا۔ جب نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے اپنی تقریر ختم فرمائی تو میں نے وہ چادر اپنے سینے سے لگا لی۔ اس ذات کی قسم جس نے آپ کو حق کے ساتھ نبی بنا کر مبعوث کیا، پھر آج تک میں آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے اسی ارشاد کی وجہ سے ( آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی کوئی حدیث نہیں بھولا ) اللہ گواہ ہے کہ اگر قرآن کی دو آیتیں نہ ہوتیں تو میں تم سے کوئی حدیث کبھی بیان نہ کرتا آیت «إن الذين يكتمون ما أنزلنا من البينات‏» سے اللہ تعالیٰ کے ارشاد «الرحيم‏» تک۔ ( جس میں ) اس دین کے چھپانے والے پر، جسے اللہ تعالیٰ نے نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے ذریعہ دنیا میں بھیجا ہے، سخت لعنت کی گئی ہے۔

Narrated Sahl bin Sa`d: A tumbler (full of milk or water) was brought to the Prophet who drank from it, while on his right side there was sitting a boy who was the youngest of those who were present and on his left side there were old men. The Prophet asked, O boy, will you allow me to give it (i.e. the rest of the drink) to the old men? The boy said, O Allah's Apostle! I will not give preference to anyone over me to drink the rest of it from which you have drunk. So, the Prophet gave it to him.

Narrated Az-Zuhri: Anas bin Malik said, that once a domestic sheep was milked for Allah's Apostle while he was in the house of Anas bin Malik. The milk was mixed with water drawn from the well in Anas's house. A tumbler of it was presented to Allah's Apostle who drank from it. Then Abu Bakr was sitting on his left side and a bedouin on his right side. When the Prophet removed the tumbler from his mouth, `Umar was afraid that the Prophet might give it to the bedouin, so he said. O Allah's Apostle! Give it to Abu Bakr who is sitting by your side. But the Prophet gave it to the bedouin, who was to his right and said, You should start with the one on your right side.

Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Apostle said, Do not withhold the superfluous water, for that will prevent people from grazing their cattle.

Narrated Abu Huraira: that Allah's Apostle said, Do not withhold the superfluous water in order to withhold the superfluous grass.

Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Apostle said, No bloodmoney will be charged if somebody dies in a mine or in a well or is killed by an animal; and if somebody finds a treasure in his land he has to give one-fifth of it to the Government.

Narrated `Abdullah (bin Mas`ud): The Prophet said, Whoever takes a false oath to deprive somebody of his property will meet Allah while He will be angry with him. Allah revealed: 'Verily those who purchase a little gain at the cost of Allah's covenant, and their oaths.' ........(3.77) Al-Ashath came (to the place where `Abdullah was narrating) and said, What has Abu `Abdur- Rahman (i.e. `Abdullah) been telling you? This verse was revealed concerning me. I had a well in the land of a cousin of mine. The Prophet asked me to bring witnesses (to confirm my claim). I said, 'I don't have witnesses.' He said, 'Let the defendant take an oath then.' I said, 'O Allah's Apostle! He will take a (false) oath immediately.' Then the Prophet mentioned the above narration and Allah revealed the verse to confirm what he had said. (See Hadith No. 692)
