Narrated Qatada: Anas went to the Prophet with barley bread having some dissolved fat on it. The Prophet had mortgaged his armor to a Jew in Medina and took from him some barley for his family. Anas heard him saying, The household of Muhammad did not possess even a single Sa of wheat or food grains for the evening meal, although he has nine wives to look after. (See Hadith No. 685)

حَدَّثَنَا مُسْلِمٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ . ح حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ حَوْشَبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَسْبَاطٌ أَبُو الْيَسَعِ الْبَصْرِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ الدَّسْتَوَائِيُّ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، أَنَّهُ مَشَى إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِخُبْزِ شَعِيرٍ وَإِهَالَةٍ سَنِخَةٍ ، وَلَقَدْ رَهَنَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، دِرْعًا لَهُ بِالْمَدِينَةِ عِنْدَ يَهُودِيٍّ ، وَأَخَذَ مِنْهُ شَعِيرًا لِأَهْلِهِ ، وَلَقَدْ سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ : مَا أَمْسَى عِنْدَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَاعُ ، بُرٍّ وَلَا صَاعُ حَبٍّ ، وَإِنَّ عِنْدَهُ لَتِسْعَ نِسْوَةٍ .

ہم سے مسلم بن ابراہیم نے بیان کیا، کہا کہ ہم سے ہشام نے بیان کیا، ان سے قتادہ نے بیان کیا، ان سے انس رضی اللہ عنہ نے (دوسری سند) اور مجھ سے محمد بن عبداللہ بن حوشب نے بیان کیا، کہا کہ ہم سے اسباط ابوالیسع بصریٰ نے، کہا کہ ہم سے ہشام دستوائی نے، انہوں نے قتادہ سے، انہوں نے انس رضی اللہ عنہ سے کہ وہ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی خدمت میں جَو کی روٹی اور بدبودار چربی ( سالن کے طور پر ) لے گئے۔ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے اس وقت اپنی زرہ مدینہ میں ایک یہودی کے یہاں گروی رکھی تھی اور اس سے اپنے گھر والوں کے لیے قرض لیا تھا۔ میں نے خود آپ کو یہ فرماتے سنا کہ محمد صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے گھرانے میں کوئی شام ایسی نہیں آئی جس میں ان کے پاس ایک صاع گیہوں یا ایک صاع کوئی غلہ موجود رہا ہو، حالانکہ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی گھر والیوں کی تعداد نو تھی۔

Narrated `Aisha: When Abu Bakr As-Siddiq was chosen Caliph, he said, My people know that my profession was not incapable of providing substance to my family. And as I will be busy serving the Muslim nation, my family will eat from the National Treasury of Muslims, and I will practice the profession of serving the Muslims.

Narrated Aisha: The companions of Allah's Apostle used to practice manual labor, so their sweat used to smell, and they were advised to take a bath.

Narrated Al-Miqdam: The Prophet said, Nobody has ever eaten a better meal than that which one has earned by working with one's own hands. The Prophet of Allah, David used to eat from the earnings of his manual labor.
