Narrated Ibn `Abbas: A man came to the Prophet and said, O Allah's Apostle! My mother died and she ought to have fasted one month (for her missed Ramadan). Shall I fast on her behalf? The Prophet replied in the affirmative and said, Allah's debts have more right to be paid. In another narration a woman is reported to have said, My sister died... Narrated Ibn `Abbas: A woman said to the Prophet My mother died and she had vowed to fast but she didn't fast. In another narration Ibn `Abbas is reported to have said, A woman said to the Prophet, My mother died while she ought to have fasted for fifteen days.

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحِيمِ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ، حَدَّثَنَا زَائِدَةُ ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ مُسْلِمٍ الْبَطِينِ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنَّ أُمِّي مَاتَتْ وَعَلَيْهَا صَوْمُ شَهْرٍ ، أَفَأَقْضِيهِ عَنْهَا ؟ قَالَ : نَعَمْ ، قَالَ : فَدَيْنُ اللَّهِ أَحَقُّ أَنْ يُقْضَى ، قَالَ سُلَيْمَانُ : فَقَالَ الْحَكَمُ وَسَلَمَةُ وَنَحْنُ جَمِيعًا جُلُوسٌ ، حِينَ حَدَّثَ مُسْلِمٌ بِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ ، قَالَا : سَمِعْنَا مُجَاهِدًا يَذْكُرُ هَذَا عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، وَيُذْكَرُ عَنْ أَبِي خَالِدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ ، عَنِ الْحَكَمِ ، وَمُسْلِمٍ الْبَطِينِ ، وَسَلَمَةِ بْنِ كُهَيْلٍ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ ، وَعَطَاءٍ ، وَمُجَاهِدٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَتِ امْرَأَةٌ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : إِنَّ أُخْتِي مَاتَتْ ، وَقَالَ يَحْيَى ، وَأَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ ، عَنْ مُسْلِمٍ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَتِ امْرَأَةٌ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : إِنَّ أُمِّي مَاتَتْ ، وَقَالَ عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَبِي أُنَيْسَةَ ، عَنِ الْحَكَمِ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَتِ امْرَأَةٌ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : إِنَّ أُمِّي مَاتَتْ وَعَلَيْهَا صَوْمُ نَذْرٍ ، وَقَالَ أَبُو حَرِيزٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عِكْرِمَةُ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَتِ امْرَأَةٌ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : مَاتَتْ أُمِّي وَعَلَيْهَا صَوْمُ خَمْسَةَ عَشَرَ يَوْمًا .

ہم سے محمد بن عبدالرحیم نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم سے معاویہ بن عمرو نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم سے زائدہ نے بیان کیا، ان سے اعمش نے، ان سے مسلم بطین نے، ان سے سعید بن جبیر نے اور ان سے ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما نے کہ ایک شخص رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی خدمت میں حاضر ہوا اور عرض کی یا رسول اللہ! میری ماں کا انتقال ہو گیا اور ان کے ذمے ایک مہینے کے روزے باقی رہ گئے ہیں۔ کیا میں ان کی طرف سے قضاء رکھ سکتا ہوں؟ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا ہاں ضرور، اللہ تعالیٰ کا قرض اس بات کا زیادہ مستحق ہے کہ اسے ادا کر دیا جائے۔ سلیمان اعمش نے بیان کیا کہ حکم اور سلمہ نے کہا جب مسلم بطین نے یہ حدیث بیان کیا تو ہم سب وہیں بیٹھے ہوئے تھے۔ ان دونوں حضرات نے فرمایا کہ ہم نے مجاہد سے بھی سنا تھا کہ وہ یہ حدیث ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما سے بیان کرتے تھے۔ ابوخالد سے روایت ہے کہ اعمش نے بیان کیا ان سے حکم، مسلم بطین اور سلمہ بن کہیل نے، ان سے سعید بن جبیر، عطاء اور مجاہد نے ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما سے کہ ایک خاتون نے نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے عرض کی کہ میری ”بہن“ کا انتقال ہو گیا ہے پھر یہی قصہ بیان کیا، یحییٰ اور سعید اور ابومعاویہ نے کہا، ان سے اعمش نے بیان کیا، ان سے مسلم نے، ان سے سعید نے اور ان سے ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما نے کہ ایک خاتون نے نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے عرض کی کہ میری ماں کا انتقال ہو گیا ہے اور عبیداللہ نے بیان کیا، ان سے زید ابن ابی انیسہ نے، ان سے حکم نے، ان سے سعید بن جبیر نے اور ان سے ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما نے کہ ایک خاتون نے نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے عرض کی کہ میری ماں کا انتقال ہو گیا ہے اور ان پر نذر کا ایک روزہ واجب تھا اور ابوحریز عبداللہ بن حسین نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم سے عکرمہ نے بیان کیا اور ان سے ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما نے کہ ایک خاتون نے نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی خدمت میں عرض کی کہ میری ماں کا انتقال ہو گیا ہے اور ان پر پندرہ دن کے روزے واجب تھے۔

Narrated `Umar bin Al-Khattab: Allah's Apostle said, When night falls from this side and the day vanishes from this side and the sun sets, then the fasting person should break his fast.

Narrated `Abdullah bin Abi `Aufa: We were in the company of the Prophet on a journey and he was fasting, and when the sun set, he addressed somebody, O so-and-so, get up and mix Sawiq with water for us. He replied, O Allah's Apostle! (Will you wait) till it is evening? The Prophet said, Get down and mix Sawiq with water for us. He replied, O Allah's Apostle! (If you wait) till it is evening. The Prophet said again, Get down and mix Sawiq with water for us. He replied, It is still daytime. (1) The Prophet said again, Get down and mix Sawiq with water for us. He got down and mixed Sawiq for them. The Prophet drank it and then said, When you see night falling from this side, the fasting person should break his fast.

Narrated `Abdullah bin Abi `Aufa: We were traveling with Allah's Apostle and he was fasting, and when the sun set, he said to (someone), Get down and mix Sawiq with water for us. He replied, O Allah's Apostle! (Will you wait) till it is evening? The Prophet again said, Get down and mix Sawiq with water for us. He replied, O Allah's Apostle! It is still daytime. The Prophet said again, Get down and mix Sawiq with water for us. So, he got down and carried out that order. The Prophet then said, When you see night falling from this side, the fasting person should break his fast, and he beckoned with his finger towards the east.

Narrated Sahl bin Sa`d: Allah's Apostle said, The people will remain on the right path as long as they hasten the breaking of the fast.

Narrated Ibn Abi `Aufa: I was with the Prophet on a journey, and he observed the fast till evening. The Prophet said to a man, Get down and mix Sawiq with water for me. He replied, Will you wait till it is evening? The Prophet said, Get down and mix Sawiq with water for me; when you see night falling from this side, the fasting person should break his fast.

Narrated Abu Usama from Hisham bin 'Urwa from Fatima: Asma bint Abi Bakr said, We broke our fast during the lifetime of the Prophet on a cloudy day and then the sun appeared. Hisham was asked, Were they ordered to fast in lieu of that day? He replied, It had to be made up for. Ma`mar said, I heard Hisham saying, I don't know whether they fasted in lieu of that day or not.
