Narrated Ibn Abi `Aufa: We were in the company of Allah's Apostle on a journey. He said to a man, Get down and mix Sawiq (powdered barley) with water for me. The man said, The sun (has not set yet), O Allah's Apostle. The Prophet again said to him, Get down and mix Sawiq with water for me. The man again said, O Allah's Apostle! The sun! The Prophet said to him (for the third time) Get down and mix Sawiq with water for me. The man dismounted and mixed Sawiq with water for him. The Prophet drank it and then beckoned with his hand (towards the East) and said, When you see the night falling from this side, then a fasting person should break his fast.

حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ الشَّيْبَانِيِّ ، سَمِعَ ابْنَ أَبِي أَوْفَى رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي سَفَرٍ ، فَقَالَ لِرَجُلٍ : انْزِلْ فَاجْدَحْ لِي ، قَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، الشَّمْسُ ، قَالَ : انْزِلْ فَاجْدَحْ لِي ، قَالَ ، يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، الشَّمْسُ ، قَالَ : انْزِلْ فَاجْدَحْ لِي ، فَنَزَلَ فَجَدَحَ لَهُ فَشَرِبَ ، ثُمَّ رَمَى بِيَدِهِ هَاهُنَا ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : إِذَا رَأَيْتُمُ اللَّيْلَ أَقْبَلَ مِنْ هَاهُنَا ، فَقَدْ أَفْطَرَ الصَّائِمُ ، تَابَعَهُ جَرِيرٌ ، وَأَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ ، عَنْ الشَّيْبَانِيِّ ، عَنْ ابْنِ أَبِي أَوْفَى ، قَالَ : كُنْتُ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي سَفَرٍ .

ہم سے علی بن عبداللہ مدینی نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم سے سفیان بن عیینہ نے بیان کیا، ان سے ابواسحاق شیبانی نے، انہوں نے عبداللہ بن ابی اوفی رضی اللہ عنہ سے سنا کہا کہ ہم رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے ساتھ سفر میں تھے ( روزہ کی حالت میں ) نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ایک صاحب ( بلال رضی اللہ عنہ ) سے فرمایا کہ اتر کر میرے لیے ستو گھول لے، انہوں نے عرض کی یا رسول اللہ! ابھی تو سورج باقی ہے، آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے پھر فرمایا کہ اتر کر ستو گھول لے، اب کی مرتبہ بھی انہوں نے عرض کی یا رسول اللہ! ابھی سورج باقی ہے لیکن آپ کا حکم اب بھی یہی تھا کہ اتر کر میرے لیے ستو گھول لے، پھر آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ایک طرف اشارہ کر کے فرمایا جب تم دیکھو کہ رات یہاں سے شروع ہو چکی ہے تو روزہ دار کو افطار کر لینا چاہئے۔ اس کی متابعت جریر اور ابوبکر بن عیاش نے شیبانی کے واسطہ سے کی ہے اور ان سے ابواوفی رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا کہ میں رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے ساتھ سفر میں تھا۔

Narrated `Aisha: Hamza bin `Amr Al-Aslami said, O Allah's Apostle! I fast continuously.

Narrated `Aisha: (the wife of the Prophet) Hamza bin `Amr Al-Aslami asked the Prophet, Should I fast while traveling? The Prophet replied, You may fast if you wish, and you may not fast if you wish.

Narrated Ibn `Abbas: Allah's Apostle set out for Mecca in Ramadan and he fasted, and when he reached Al-Kadid, he broke his fast and the people (with him) broke their fast too. (Abu `Abdullah said, Al-Kadid is a land covered with water between Usfan and Qudaid. )

Narrated Abu Ad-Darda: We set out with Allah's Apostle on one of his journeys on a very hot day, and it was so hot that one had to put his hand over his head because of the severity of heat. None of us was fasting except the Prophet and Ibn Rawaha.

Narrated Jabir bin `Abdullah: Allah's Apostle was on a journey and saw a crowd of people, and a man was being shaded (by them). He asked, What is the matter? They said, He (the man) is fasting. The Prophet said, It is not righteousness that you fast on a journey.

Narrated Anas bin Malik: We used to travel with the Prophet and neither did the fasting persons criticize those who were not fasting, nor did those who were not fasting criticize the fasting ones.
