Narrated Anas: Zaid bin Thabit said, We took the Suhur with the Prophet . Then he stood for the prayer. I asked, What was the interval between the Suhur and the Adhan? He replied, The interval was sufficient to recite fifty verses of the Qur'an.
حَدَّثَنَا مُسْلِمُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : تَسَحَّرْنَا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، ثُمَّ قَامَ إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ ، قُلْتُ : كَمْ كَانَ بَيْنَ الْأَذَانِ وَالسَّحُورِ ؟ قَالَ : قَدْرُ خَمْسِينَ آيَةً .
ہم سے مسلم بن ابراہیم نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم سے ہشام نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم سے قتادہ نے بیان کیا، ان سے انس رضی اللہ عنہ نے اور ان سے زید بن ثابت رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہ   نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے ساتھ ہم نے سحری کھائی، پھر آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم صبح کی نماز کے لیے کھڑے ہوئے۔ میں نے پوچھا کہ سحری اور اذان میں کتنا فاصلہ ہوتا تھا تو انہوں نے کہا کہ پچاس آیتیں ( پڑھنے ) کے موافق فاصلہ ہوتا تھا۔

Narrated `Abdullah: The Prophet fasted for days continuously; the people also did the same but it was difficult for them. So, the Prophet forbade them (to fast continuously for more than one day). They slid, But you fast without break (no food was taken in the evening or in the morning). The Prophet replied, I am not like you, for I am provided with food and drink (by Allah).
