Narrated `Abdullah bin Abu Qatada: That his father had told him that Allah's Apostle set out for Hajj and so did his companions. He sent a batch of his companions by another route and Abu Qatada was one of them. The Prophet said to them, Proceed along the seashore till we meet all together. So, they took the route of the seashore, and when they started all of them assumed Ihram except Abu Qatada. While they were proceeding on, his companions saw a group of onagers. Abu Qatada chased the onagers and attacked and wounded a sheonager. They got down and ate some of its meat and said to each other: How do we eat the meat of the game while we are in a state of Ihram? So, we (they) carried the rest of the she-onager's meat, and when they met Allah's Apostle they asked, saying, O Allah's Apostle! We assumed Ihram with the exception of Abu Qatada and we saw (a group) of onagers. Abu Qatada attacked them and wounded a she-onager from them. Then we got down and ate from its meat. Later, we said, (to each other), 'How do we eat the meat of the game and we are in a state of Ihram?' So, we carried the rest of its meat. The Prophet asked, Did anyone of you order Abu Qatada to attack it or point at it? They replied in the negative. He said, Then eat what is left of its meat.

حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ هُوَ ابْنُ مَوْهَبٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ ، أَنَّ أَبَاهُ أَخْبَرَهُ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَرَجَ حَاجًّا فَخَرَجُوا مَعَهُ ، فَصَرَفَ طَائِفَةً مِنْهُمْ فِيهِمْ أَبُو قَتَادَةَ ، فَقَالَ : خُذُوا سَاحِلَ الْبَحْرِ حَتَّى نَلْتَقِيَ ، فَأَخَذُوا سَاحِلَ الْبَحْرِ ، فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفُوا أَحْرَمُوا كُلُّهُمْ إِلَّا أَبُو قَتَادَةَ لَمْ يُحْرِمْ ، فَبَيْنَمَا هُمْ يَسِيرُونَ إِذْ رَأَوْا حُمُرَ وَحْشٍ ، فَحَمَلَ أَبُو قَتَادَةَ عَلَى الْحُمُرِ ، فَعَقَرَ مِنْهَا أَتَانًا ، فَنَزَلُوا فَأَكَلُوا مِنْ لَحْمِهَا ، وَقَالُوا : أَنَأْكُلُ لَحْمَ صَيْدٍ وَنَحْنُ مُحْرِمُونَ ؟ فَحَمَلْنَا مَا بَقِيَ مِنْ لَحْمِ الْأَتَانِ ، فَلَمَّا أَتَوْا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالُوا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنَّا كُنَّا أَحْرَمْنَا ، وَقَدْ كَانَ أَبُو قَتَادَةَ لَمْ يُحْرِمْ ، فَرَأَيْنَا حُمُرَ وَحْشٍ ، فَحَمَلَ عَلَيْهَا أَبُو قَتَادَةَ فَعَقَرَ مِنْهَا أَتَانًا ، فَنَزَلْنَا فَأَكَلْنَا مِنْ لَحْمِهَا ، ثُمَّ قُلْنَا : أَنَأْكُلُ لَحْمَ صَيْدٍ وَنَحْنُ مُحْرِمُونَ ! فَحَمَلْنَا مَا بَقِيَ مِنْ لَحْمِهَا ، قَالَ : أَمِنْكُمْ أَحَدٌ أَمَرَهُ أَنْ يَحْمِلَ عَلَيْهَا ، أَوْ أَشَارَ إِلَيْهَا ؟ قَالُوا : لَا ، قَالَ : فَكُلُوا مَا بَقِيَ مِنْ لَحْمِهَا .

ہم سے موسیٰ بن اسماعیل نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم سے ابوعوانہ نے بیان کیا، ان سے عثمان بن موہب نے بیان کیا، کہا کہ مجھے عبداللہ بن ابی قتادہ رضی اللہ عنہ نے خبر دی اور انہیں ان کے والد ابوقتادہ نے خبر دی کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ( حج کا ) ارادہ کر کے نکلے۔ صحابہ رضوان اللہ علیہم بھی آپ کے ساتھ تھے۔ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے صحابہ کی ایک جماعت کو جس میں ابوقتادہ رضی اللہ عنہ بھی تھے یہ ہدایت دے کر راستے سے واپس بھیجا کہ تم لوگ دریا کے کنارے کنارے ہو کر جاؤ، ( اور دشمن کا پتہ لگاؤ ) پھر ہم سے آ ملو۔ چنانچہ یہ جماعت دریا کے کنارے کنارے چلی، واپسی میں سب نے احرام باندھ لیا تھا لیکن ابوقتادہ رضی اللہ عنہ نے ابھی احرام نہیں باندھا تھا۔ یہ قافلہ چل رہا تھا کہ کئی گورخر دکھائی دئیے، ابوقتادہ نے ان پر حملہ کیا اور ایک مادہ کا شکار کر لیا، پھر ایک جگہ ٹھہر کر سب نے اس کا گوشت کھایا اور ساتھ ہی یہ خیال بھی آیا کہ کیا ہم محرم ہونے کے باوجود شکار کا گوشت بھی کھا سکتے ہیں؟ چنانچہ جو کچھ گوشت بچا وہ ہم ساتھ لائے اور جب رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی خدمت میں پہنچے تو عرض کی یا رسول اللہ! ہم سب لوگ تو محرم تھے لیکن ابوقتادہ رضی اللہ عنہ نے احرام نہیں باندھا تھا پھر ہم نے گورخر دیکھے اور ابوقتادہ رضی اللہ عنہ نے ان پر حملہ کر کے ایک مادہ کا شکار کر لیا، اس کے بعد ایک جگہ ہم نے قیام کیا اور اس کا گوشت کھایا پھر خیال آیا کہ کیا ہم محرم ہونے کے باوجود شکار کا گوشت کھا بھی سکتے ہیں؟ اس لیے جو کچھ گوشت باقی بچا ہے وہ ہم ساتھ لائے ہیں۔ آپ نے پوچھا کیا تم میں سے کسی نے ابوقتادہ رضی اللہ عنہ کو شکار کرنے کے لیے کہا تھا؟ یا کسی نے اس شکار کی طرف اشارہ کیا تھا؟ سب نے کہا نہیں۔ اس پر آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا کہ پھر بچا ہوا گوشت بھی کھا لو۔

Narrated `Abdullah bin `Abbas: From As-Sa'b bin Jath-thama Al-Laithi that the latter presented an onager to Allah's Apostle while he was at Al-Abwa' or at Waddan, and he refused it. On noticing the signs of some unpleasant feeling of disappointment on his (As-Sab's) face, the Prophet said to him, I have only returned it because I am Muhrim.

Narrated `Abdullah bin `Umar: Allah's Apostle said, It is not sinful of a Muhrim to kill five kinds of animals.

Narrated Hafsa: Allah's Apostle said, It is not sinful (of a Muhrim) to kill five kinds of animals, namely: the crow, the kite, the mouse, the scorpion and the rabid dog.

Narrated `Abdullah: While we were in the company of the Prophet in a cave at Mina, when Surat-wal-Mursalat were revealed and he recited it and I heard it (directly) from his mouth as soon as he recited its revelation. Suddenly a snake sprang at us and the Prophet said (ordered us): Kill it. We ran to kill it but it escaped quickly. The Prophet said, It has escaped your evil and you too have escaped its evil.
