Narrated Ibn `Umar: Allah's Apostle enjoined the payment of one Sa' of dates or one Sa' of barley as Zakat-ul-Fitr on every Muslim slave or free, male or female, young or old, and he ordered that it be paid before the people went out to offer the `Id prayer. (One Sa' = 3 Kilograms approx.)

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ السَّكَنِ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَهْضَمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ نَافِعٍ , عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا ، قَالَ : فَرَضَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ زَكَاةَ الْفِطْرِ صَاعًا مِنْ تَمْرٍ أَوْ صَاعًا مِنْ شَعِيرٍ عَلَى الْعَبْدِ , وَالْحُرِّ , وَالذَّكَرِ , وَالْأُنْثَى , وَالصَّغِيرِ , وَالْكَبِيرِ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ ، وَأَمَرَ بِهَا أَنْ تُؤَدَّى قَبْلَ خُرُوجِ النَّاسِ إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ .

ہم سے یحییٰ بن محمد بن سکن نے بیان کیا ‘ انہوں نے کہا کہ ہم سے محمد بن جھضم نے بیان کیا ‘ انہوں نے کہا کہ ہم سے اسماعیل بن جعفر نے بیان کیا ‘ ان سے عمر بن نافع نے ان سے ان کے باپ نے اور ان سے عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما نے بیان کیا کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فطر کی زکوٰۃ ( صدقہ فطر ) ایک صاع کھجور یا ایک صاع جَو فرض قرار دی تھی۔ غلام ‘ آزاد ‘ مرد ‘ عورت ‘ چھوٹے اور بڑے تمام مسلمانوں پر۔ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کا حکم یہ تھا کہ نماز ( عید ) کے لیے جانے سے پہلے یہ صدقہ ادا کر دیا جائے۔

Narrated Abu Sa`id Al-Khudri: We used to give one Sa' of meal or one Sa' of barley or one Sa' of dates, or one Sa' of cottage cheese or one Sa' of Raisins (dried grapes) as Zakat-ul-Fitr.

Narrated `Abdullah bin `Umar: The Prophet ordered (Muslims) to give one Sa' of dates or one Sa' of barley as Zakat-ul-Fitr. The people rewarded two Mudds of wheat as equal to that.

Narrated Abu Sa`id Al-Khudri: In the lifetime of the Prophet we used to give one Sa' of food or one Sa' of dates or one Sa' of barley or one Sa' of Raisins (dried grapes) as Sadaqat-ul-Fitr. And when Muawiya became the Caliph and the wheat was (available in abundance) he said, I think (observe) that one Mudd (of wheat) equals two Mudds (of any of the above mentioned things).
