Narrated Abu Wail: Hudhaifa said, `Umar said, 'Who amongst you remembers the statement of Allah's Apostle (p.b.u.h) about afflictions'?' I said, 'I know it as the Prophet had said it.' `Umar said, 'No doubt, you are bold. How did he say it?' I said, 'A man's afflictions (wrong deeds) concerning his wife, children and neighbors are expiated by (his) prayers, charity, and enjoining good.' (The sub-narrator Sulaiman added that he said, 'The prayer, charity, enjoining good and forbidding evil.') `Umar said, 'I did not mean that, but I ask about that affliction which will spread like the waves of the sea.' I said, 'O chief of the believers! You need not be afraid of it as there is a closed door between you and it.' He asked, 'Will the door be broken or opened?' I replied, 'No, it will be broken.' He said, 'Then, if it is broken, it will never be closed again?' I replied, 'Yes.' Then we were afraid to ask what that door was, so we asked Masruq to inquire, and he asked Hudhaifa regarding it. Hudhaifa said, The door was `Umar. We further asked Hudhaifa whether `Umar knew what that door meant. Hudhaifa replied in the affirmative and added, He knew it as one knows that there will be a night before the tomorrow morning.

حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ , قَالَ : قَالَ عُمَرُ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ : أَيُّكُمْ يَحْفَظُ حَدِيثَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنِ الْفِتْنَةِ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ أَنَا أَحْفَظُهُ , كَمَا قَالَ ، قَالَ : إِنَّكَ عَلَيْهِ لَجَرِيءٌ ، فَكَيْفَ قَالَ ؟ , قُلْتُ : فِتْنَةُ الرَّجُلِ فِي أَهْلِهِ وَوَلَدِهِ وَجَارِهِ تُكَفِّرُهَا الصَّلَاةُ , وَالصَّدَقَةُ , وَالْمَعْرُوفُ ، قَالَ سُلَيْمَانُ : قَدْ كَانَ يَقُولُ : الصَّلَاةُ , وَالصَّدَقَةُ , وَالْأَمْرُ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ , وَالنَّهْيُ عَنِ الْمُنْكَرِ ، قَالَ : لَيْسَ هَذِهِ أُرِيدُ ، وَلَكِنِّي أُرِيدُ الَّتِي تَمُوجُ كَمَوْجِ الْبَحْرِ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ لَيْسَ عَلَيْكَ بِهَا يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ بَأْسٌ بَيْنَكَ وَبَيْنَهَا بَابٌ مُغْلَقٌ ، قَالَ : فَيُكْسَرُ الْبَابُ أَوْ يُفْتَحُ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ لَا بَلْ يُكْسَرُ ، قَالَ : فَإِنَّهُ إِذَا كُسِرَ لَمْ يُغْلَقْ أَبَدًا ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ أَجَلْ ، فَهِبْنَا أَنْ نَسْأَلَهُ مَنِ الْبَابُ , فَقُلْنَا لِمَسْرُوقٍ سَلْهُ ، قَالَ : فَسَأَلَهُ ، فَقَالَعُمَرُ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ : قَالَ : قُلْنَا فَعَلِمَ عُمَرُ مَنْ تَعْنِي ، قَالَ : نَعَمْ ، كَمَا أَنَّ دُونَ غَدٍ لَيْلَةً ، وَذَلِكَ أَنِّي حَدَّثْتُهُ حَدِيثًا لَيْسَ بِالْأَغَالِيطِ .

ہم سے قتیبہ نے بیان کیا ‘ کہا کہ ہم سے جریر نے اعمش سے بیان کیا ‘ ان سے ابووائل نے ‘ انہوں نے حذیفہ بن یمان رضی اللہ عنہ سے کہ عمر بن خطاب رضی اللہ عنہ نے فرمایا کہ فتنہ سے متعلق رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی حدیث آپ لوگوں میں کس کو یاد ہے؟ حذیفہ رضی اللہ عنہ نے بیان کیا کہ میں نے کہا میں اس طرح یاد رکھتا ہوں جس طرح نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے اس کو بیان فرمایا تھا۔ اس پر عمر رضی اللہ عنہ نے فرمایا کہ تمہیں اس کے بیان پر جرات ہے۔ اچھا تو نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فتنوں کے بارے میں کیا فرمایا تھا؟ میں نے کہا کہ ( آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا تھا ) انسان کی آزمائش ( فتنہ ) اس کے خاندان ‘ اولاد اور پڑوسیوں میں ہوتی ہے اور نماز ‘ صدقہ اور اچھی باتوں کے لیے لوگوں کو حکم کرنا اور بری باتوں سے منع کرنا اس فتنے کا کفارہ بن جاتی ہیں۔ اعمش نے کہا ابووائل کبھی یوں کہتے تھے۔ نماز اور صدقہ اور اچھی باتوں کا حکم دینا بری بات سے روکنا ‘ یہ اس فتنے کو مٹا دینے والے نیک کام ہیں۔ پھر اس فتنے کے متعلق عمر رضی اللہ عنہ نے فرمایا کہ میری مراد اس فتنہ سے نہیں۔ میں اس فتنے کے بارے میں پوچھنا چاہتا ہوں جو سمندر کی طرح ٹھاٹھیں مارتا ہوا پھیلے گا۔ حذیفہ رضی اللہ عنہ نے بیان کیا ‘ میں نے کہا کہ امیرالمؤمنین آپ اس فتنے کی فکر نہ کیجئے آپ کے اور اس فتنہ کے درمیان ایک بند دروازہ ہے۔ عمر رضی اللہ عنہ نے پوچھا کہ وہ دروازہ توڑ دیا جائے گا یا صرف کھولا جائے گا۔ انہوں نے بتلایا نہیں بلکہ وہ دروازہ توڑ دیا جائے گا۔ اس پر عمر رضی اللہ عنہ نے فرمایا کہ جب دروازہ توڑ دیا جائے گا تو پھر کبھی بھی بند نہ ہو سکے گا ابووائل نے کہا کہ ہاں پھر ہم رعب کی وجہ سے حذیفہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے یہ نہ پوچھ سکے کہ وہ دروازہ کون ہے؟ اس لیے ہم نے مسروق سے کہا کہ تم پوچھو۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ مسروق رحمتہ اللہ علیہ نے پوچھا تو حذیفہ رضی اللہ عنہ نے فرمایا کہ دروازہ سے مراد خود عمر رضی اللہ عنہ ہی تھے۔ ہم نے پھر پوچھا تو کیا عمر رضی اللہ عنہ جانتے تھے کہ آپ کی مراد کون تھی؟ انہوں نے کہا ہاں جیسے دن کے بعد رات کے آنے کو جانتے ہیں اور یہ اس لیے کہ میں نے جو حدیث بیان کی وہ غلط نہیں تھی۔

Narrated Hakim bin Hizam: I said to Allah's Apostle, Before embracing Islam I used to do good deeds like giving in charity, slave-manumitting, and the keeping of good relations with Kith and kin. Shall I be rewarded for those deeds? The Prophet replied, You became Muslim with all those good deeds (Without losing their reward).

Narrated `Aisha: Allah's Apostle said, When a woman gives in charity from her husband's meals without wasting the property of her husband, she will get a reward for it, and her husband too will get a reward for what he earned and the storekeeper will have the reward likewise.

Narrated Abu Musa: The Prophet said, An honest Muslim storekeeper who carries out the orders of his master and pays fully what he has been ordered to give with a good heart and pays to that person to whom he was ordered to pay, is regarded as one of the two charitable persons.

Narrate Aisha: The Prophet said, If a woman gives in charity from her husband's house .. The Prophet (p.b.u.h) also said, If a lady gives meals (in charity) from her husband's house without spoiling her husband's property, she will get a reward and her husband will also get a reward likewise. The husband will get a reward because of his earnings and the woman because of her spending.
