Narrated Um 'Atiyya: The daughter of the Prophet expired, and he said to us, Wash her three or five times, or more if you see it necessary, and when you finish, notify me. So, (when we finished) we informed him and he unfastened his waist-sheet and told us to shroud her in it.

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ حَمَّادٍ ، أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ عَوْنٍ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ ، عَنْ أُمِّ عَطِيَّةَ , قَالَتْ : تُوُفِّيَتْ بِنْتُ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ لَنَا :اغْسِلْنَهَا ثَلَاثًا , أَوْ خَمْسًا , أَوْ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ إِنْ رَأَيْتُنَّ ، فَإِذَا فَرَغْتُنَّ فَآذِنَّنِي ، فَلَمَّا فَرَغْنَا آذَنَّاهُ فَنَزَعَ مِنْ حِقْوِهِ إِزَارَهُ , وَقَالَ : أَشْعِرْنَهَا إِيَّاهُ .

ہم سے عبدالرحمٰن بن حماد نے بیان کیا، کہا کہ ہم کو ابن عون نے خبر دی، انہیں محمد نے، ان سے ام عطیہ رضی اللہ عنہا نے بیان کیا کہ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی ایک صاحبزادی کا انتقال ہو گیا۔ اس موقع پر آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ہمیں فرمایا کہ تم اسے تین یا پانچ مرتبہ غسل دو اور اگر مناسب سمجھو تو اس سے زیادہ مرتبہ بھی غسل دے سکتی ہو۔ پھر فارغ ہو کر مجھے خبر دینا۔ چنانچہ جب ہم غسل دے چکیں تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو خبر دی اور آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے اپنا ازار عنایت فرمایا اور فرمایا کہ اسے اس کے بدن سے لپیٹ دو۔

Narrated Muhammad: Um 'Atiyya said, One of the daughters of the Prophet died and he came out and said, 'Wash her three or five times or more, if you think it necessary, with water and Sidr, and last of all put camphor (or some camphor) and when you finish, inform me.' Um Atiyya added, When we finished we informed him and he gave us his waist-sheet and said, 'Shroud her in it.'

And Um 'Atiyya (in another narration) added, The Prophet said, 'Wash her three, five or seven times or more, if you think it necessary.' Hafsa said that Um 'Atiyya had also said, We entwined her hair into three braids.

Narrated Hafsa bint Seereen: Um 'Atiyya said that they had entwined the hair of the daughter of Allah's Apostle in three braids. They first undid her hair, washed and then entwined it in three braids.

Narrated Ibn Seereen: Um 'Atiyya (an Ansari woman who gave the pledge of allegiance to the Prophet ) came to Basra to visit her son, but she could not find him. She narrated to us, The Prophet came to us while we were giving bath to his (dead) daughter, he said: 'Wash her three times, five times or more, if you think it necessary, with water and Sidr, and last of all put camphor, and when you finish, notify me.' Um 'Atiyya added, After finishing, we informed him and he gave us his waist sheet and told us to shroud her in it and did not say more than that.

Narrated Um 'Atiyya: We entwined the hair of the dead daughter of the Prophet into three braids. Waki said that Sufyan said, One braid was entwined in front and the other two were entwined on the sides of the head.

Narrated Um 'Atiyya: One of the daughters of the Prophet expired and he came to us and said, Wash her with Sidr (water) for odd number of times, i.e. three, five or more, if you think it necessary, and in the last, put camphor or (some camphor on her), and when you finish, notify me. So when we finished we informed him. He gave his waist-sheet to us (to shroud her). We entwined the hair (of the deceased girl) in three braids and made them fall at her back.
