The Prophet (ﷺ) and his companions reached Mecca in the morning of the 4th Dhul-Hijja reciting Talbiya (O Allah! We are obedient to your orders, we respond 4 to your call) . . . intending to perform Hajj. The Prophet (ﷺ) ordered his companions to assume the lhram for Umra instead of Hajj, excepting those who had Hadi (sacrifice) with them.
حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا وُهَيْبٌ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَيُّوبُ ، عَنْ أَبِي الْعَالِيَةِ الْبَرَّاءِ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا ، قَالَ : قَدِمَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَصْحَابُهُ لِصُبْحِ رَابِعَةٍ يُلَبُّونَ بِالْحَجِّ فَأَمَرَهُمْ أَنْ يَجْعَلُوهَا عُمْرَةً إِلَّا مَنْ مَعَهُ الْهَدْيُ ، تَابَعَهُ عَطَاءٌ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ .
ہم سے موسیٰ بن اسماعیل نے بیان کیا کہا کہ ہم سے وہیب نے بیان کیا کہا کہ ہم سے ایوب نے بیان کیا ان سے ابوالعالیہ براء نے ان سے ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما نے کہ   نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم صحابہ کو ساتھ لے کر تلبیہ کہتے ہوئے ذی الحجہ کی چوتھی تاریخ کو ( مکہ میں ) تشریف لائے پھر آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا کہ جن کے پاس ہدی نہیں ہے وہ بجائے حج کے عمرہ کی نیت کر لیں اور عمرہ سے فارغ ہو کر حلال ہو جائیں پھر حج کا احرام باندھیں۔ اس حدیث کی متابعت عطاء نے جابر سے کی ہے۔

Narrated `Abdullah bin `Umar: I saw Allah's Apostle delaying the Maghrib prayer till he offered it along with the `Isha' prayer whenever he was in a hurry during the journey. Salim narrated, Ibn `Umar used to do the same whenever he was in a hurry during the journey. And Salim added, Ibn `Umar used to pray the Maghrib and `Isha' prayers together in Al-Muzdalifa.
