Salman bin Amir Ad-Dabbi narrated that : the Prophet said: When one of you breaks his fast, then let him do so with dried dates. And whoever does not find dates, then water, for it is purifying.
حَدَّثَنَا مَحْمُودُ بْنُ غَيْلَانَ، حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عَاصِمٍ الْأَحْوَلِ ح. وَحَدَّثَنَا هَنَّادٌ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، عَنْ عَاصِمٍ الْأَحْوَلِ. وحَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَنْبَأَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ عَاصِمٍ الْأَحْوَلِ، عَنْ حَفْصَةَ بِنْتِ سِيرِينَ، عَنْ الرَّبَاب، عَنْ سَلْمَانَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ الضَّبِّيِّ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِذَا أَفْطَرَ أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيُفْطِرْ عَلَى تَمْرٍ زَادَ ابْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ فَإِنَّهُ بَرَكَةٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَمَنْ لَمْ يَجِدْ فَلْيُفْطِرْ عَلَى مَاءٍ فَإِنَّهُ طَهُورٌ . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ.
سلمان بن عامر ضبی رضی الله عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ   نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”جب تم میں سے کوئی افطار کرے تو چاہیئے کہ کھجور سے افطار کرے کیونکہ اس میں برکت ہے اور جسے ( کھجور ) میسر نہ ہو تو وہ پانی سے افطار کرے کیونکہ یہ پاکیزہ چیز ہے ۲؎۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: یہ حدیث حسن صحیح ہے۔

Anas bin Malik narrated: The Messenger of Allah would break the fast with fresh dates before performing Salat. If there were no fresh dates then (he would break the fast) with dried dates, and if there were no dried dates then he would take a few sips of water.
