Sulaiman bin Buraidah narrated that his father said: “Khalid bin Al-Walid al Makhzumi complained to the Prophet (ﷺ) saying: ‘O Messenger of Allah, I do not sleep at night due to insomnia.’ So Allah’s Prophet (ﷺ) said: ‘When you go to your bed, say: O Allah, Lord of the Seven Heavens and what they have shaded, Lord of the earths and what they carry, Lord of the Shayatin and those they have misguided, be for me a Protector against the evil of Your creation, all of them together, so that none of them should transgress against me, or oppress me, mighty is the one who seeks protection in You, and glorified is Your praise, and there is none worthy of worship other than You, and there is none worthy of worship except You. (Allāhumma rabbas-samāwātis-sab`i wa mā aẓallat, wa rabbal-arḍīna wa mā aqallat, wa rabbash-shayāṭīni wa mā aḍallat, kun lī jāran min sharri khalqika kullihim jamī`an an yafruṭa `alayya aḥadun minhum, aw an yabghiya `alayya, `azza jāruka wa jalla thanā’uka, wa lā ilāha ghairuka wa lā ilāha illā anta).”
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَاتِمٍ الْمُؤَدِّبُ، حَدَّثَنَا الْحَكَمُ بْنُ ظُهَيْرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَلْقَمَةُ بْنُ مَرْثَدٍ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ بُرَيْدَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ شَكَا خَالِدُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ الْمَخْزُومِيُّ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏مَا أَنَامُ اللَّيْلَ مِنَ الْأَرَقِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ إِذَا أَوَيْتَ إِلَى فِرَاشِكَ فَقُلْ:‏‏‏‏ اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّ السَّمَوَاتِ السَّبْعِ وَمَا أَظَلَّتْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَرَبَّ الْأَرَضِينَ وَمَا أَقَلَّتْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَرَبَّ الشَّيَاطِينِ وَمَا أَضَلَّتْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏كُنْ لِي جَارًا مِنْ شَرِّ خَلْقِكَ كُلِّهِمْ جَمِيعًا أَنْ يَفْرُطَ عَلَيَّ أَحَدٌ مِنْهُمْ أَوْ أَنْ يَبْغِيَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَزَّ جَارُكَ وَجَلَّ ثَنَاؤُكَ وَلَا إِلَهَ غَيْرُكَ وَلَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ لَيْسَ إِسْنَادُهُ بِالْقَوِيِّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَالْحَكَمُ بْنُ ظُهَيْرٍ قَدْ تَرَكَ حَدِيثَهُ بَعْضُ أَهْلِ الْحَدِيثِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَيُرْوَى هَذَا الْحَدِيثُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مُرْسَلًا مِنْ غَيْرِ هَذَا الْوَجْهِ.
بریدہ رضی الله عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ   خالد بن ولید مخزومی رضی الله عنہ نے نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے شکایت کرتے ہوئے کہا: اللہ کے رسول! میں رات بھر نیند نہ آنے کی وجہ سے سو نہیں پاتا ہوں، رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”جب تم اپنے بسترے پر سونے کے لیے جاؤ تو پڑھو: «اللهم رب السموات السبع وما أظلت ورب الأرضين وما أقلت ورب الشياطين وما أضلت كن لي جارا من شر خلقك كلهم جميعا أن يفرط علي أحد منهم أو أن يبغي عز جارك وجل ثناؤك ولا إله غيرك لا إله إلا أنت» ”اے اللہ! ساتوں آسمانوں، اور جن پر وہ سایہ فگن ہیں ان سب کے رب! ساری زمینوں اور ان ساری چیزوں کے رب جن کا وہ بوجھ اٹھائے ہوئے ہیں اور اے شیاطین اور جنہیں انہوں نے گمراہ کیا ہے ان سب کے رب! اپنی ساری مخلوق کے شر سے بچانے کے لیے میرا پڑوسی بن جا، تاکہ ان میں سے کوئی مجھ پر نہ ظلم و زیادتی کر سکے، اور نہ ہی بغاوت و سرکشی کا مرتکب ہو، تیرا پڑوسی باعزت ہو، اور تیری ثنا ( و تعریف ) بڑھ چڑھ کر ہو، تیرے سوا کوئی معبود برحق نہیں معبود تو بس تو ہی ہے“۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: ۱- اس حدیث کی سند قوی نہیں ہے، ۲- حکم بن ظہیر جو اس حدیث کے ایک راوی ہیں، بعض محدثین ان کی بیان کردہ حدیث نہیں لیتے، ۳- یہ حدیث نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے ایک دوسری سند سے مرسل طریقہ سے آئی ہے۔

Anas bin Malik said: “Whenever a matter would distress him, the Prophet (ﷺ) would say: ‘O Living, O Self-Sustaining Sustainer! In Your Mercy do I seek relief (Yā Ḥayyu yā Qayyūm, bi-raḥmatika astaghīth).’” And with this chain, that he said: “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘Be constant with: “O Possessor of Majesty and Honor (Yā Dhal-Jalāli wal-Ikrām).’”

Abu Umamah Al-Bahili said: “I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) saying: “Whoever goes to his bed while in a state of purity and remembering Allah, until slumber overtakes him, he shall not get up at any hour of the night and ask Allah for something from the good of the world and the Hereafter except that Allah shall grant it to him.’”

Mu`adh bin Jabal narrated that the Prophet (ﷺ) heard a man supplicating, saying: O Allah! Verily, I ask You for the bounty's completion (Allāhumma, innī as'aluka tamāman-ni`mah). So he (ﷺ) said: What thing is the bounty's completion? He said: A supplication that I made, that I hope for good by it. He (ﷺ) said: Indeed, part of the bounty's completion is the entrance into Paradise, and salvation from the Fire. And he (ﷺ) heard a man while he was saying: O Possessor of Majesty and Honor (Yā Dhal-Jalāli wal-Ikrām) So he (ﷺ) said: You have been responded to, so ask. And the Prophet (ﷺ) heard a man while he was saying: O Allah, indeed, I ask You for patience (Allāhumma, innī as'alukaṣ-ṣabr) He (ﷺ) said: You have asked Allah for trial, so ask him for Al-`Āfiyah.

`Amr bin Shu`aib narrated from his father, from his grandfather, that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “When one of you becomes frightened during sleep, then let him say: ‘I seek refuge in Allah’s Perfect Words from His anger, His punishment, and the evil of His creatures, from the whisperings of the Shayatin, and that they should come (A`ūdhu bikalimātillāhit-tāmmati min ghaḍabihī wa `iqābihī wa sharri `ibādih, wa min hamazātish-shayāṭīni wa an yaḥḍurūn).’ For verily, they shall not harm him.” He said: “So `Abdullah bin `Amr used to teach it to those of his children who attained maturity, and those of them who did not, he would write it on a sheet and then hang it around his neck.”

Abu Rashid Al-Hubrani said: “I came to `Abdullah bin `Amr and said to him: ‘Report something to me that you heard from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ).’ So he set forth before me a scroll and said: ‘This is what the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) wrote for me.’” He said: “So I looked in it and found in it: ‘Indeed, Abu Bakr As-Siddiq, may Allah be pleased with him, said: “O Messenger of Allah, teach me what to say at morning and afternoon.” He said: “O Abu Bakr, say: ‘O Allah, Creator of the heavens and the earth, Knower of the unseen and the seen, there is none worthy of worship except You, Lord of everything and its Owner, I seek refuge in You from the evil of my soul and from the evil of Shaitan and his Shirk, or that I should do some evil to myself or bring it upon a Muslim (Allāhumma fāṭiras-samāwāti wal-arḍi, `ālimal-ghaibi wash-shahādati, lā ilāha illā anta, rabba kulli shai’in wa malīkahu, a`ūdhu bika min sharri nafsī wa min sharrish-shaiṭāni wa sharakihi, wa an aqtarifa `alā nafsī sū’an, aw ajurrahu ilā muslim).’”
