Translation

Arabic, english and urdu

Aishah narrated: “I said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, what is your view if I know when the Night of Al-Qadr is, then what should I say in it?” He said: ‘Say: “O Allah, indeed You are Pardoning, [Generous,] You love pardon, so pardon me (Allāhumma innaka `Afuwwun [Karīmun], tuḥibbul-`afwa fa`fu `annī).’”

حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، حَدَّثَنَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ الضُّبَعِيُّ، عَنْ كَهْمَسِ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ بُرَيْدَةَ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتْ:‏‏‏‏ قُلْتُ:‏‏‏‏ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ عَلِمْتُ أَيُّ لَيْلَةٍ لَيْلَةُ الْقَدْرِ مَا أَقُولُ فِيهَا ؟ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قُولِي:‏‏‏‏ اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عُفُوٌّ كَرِيمٌ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ.

ام المؤمنین عائشہ رضی الله عنہا کہتی ہیں کہ میں نے کہا: اللہ کے رسول! اگر مجھے معلوم ہو جائے کہ کون سی رات لیلۃ القدر ہے تو میں اس میں کیا پڑھوں؟ آپ نے فرمایا: ”پڑھو «اللهم إنك عفو كريم تحب العفو فاعف عني» ”اے اللہ! تو عفو و درگزر کرنے والا مہربان ہے، اور عفو و درگزر کرنے کو تو پسند کرتا ہے، اس لیے تو ہمیں معاف و درگزر کر دے“۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: یہ حدیث حسن صحیح ہے۔

Al-`Abbas bin `Abdul-Muttalib said: “I said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, teach me something that I may ask Allah, [Mighty and Sublime] for.’ He (ﷺ) said: ‘Ask Allah for Al-`Āfiyah.’ Then I remained for a day, then I came and said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, teach me something that I may ask Allah for.’ So he (ﷺ) said to me: “O Abbas, O uncle of the Messenger of Allah! Ask Allah for Al-`Āfiyah in the world and in the Hereafter.”

[Ibn Umar narrated that the Messenger of Allah said (ﷺ): “Allah has not been asked for anything more beloved to Him than being asked for Al-`Āfiyah.]

Aishah narrated from Abu Bakr As-Siddiq,: that whenever the Prophet (ﷺ) wanted to do a matter, he would say: “O Allah, make it good for me and choose for me. (Allāhumma khir lī wakhtar lī)”

Abu Malik Al-Ash`ari narrated that the Messenger of Allah said: “Al-Wudu is half of faith, and All praise is due to Allah (Al-Ḥamdulillāh) fills the Scale, and Glory is to Allah and all praise is to Allah (Subḥān Allāh wal-Ḥamdulillāh)’ fill” - or - “fills what is between the heavens and the earth, and Salat is light and charity is an evidence, and patience is an illumination, and the Quran is a proof for you or against you. And all people shall come to the morning selling their souls, either setting it free or destroying it.”

Abdullah bin Amr narrated that the Messenger of Allah said: “At-Tasbīḥ is half of the Scale, and All praise is due to Allah (Al-Ḥamdulillāh)’ fills it, and (as for) None has the right to be worshipped but Allah (Lā Ilāha Illallāh)’ - there is no barrier to it from Allah until it reaches Him.”

A man from Banu Sulaim narrated: “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) counted them out in my hand” - or - “in his hand: ‘At-Tasbīḥ is half of the Scale, and “All praise is due to Allah (Al-Ḥamdulillāh)” fills it, and At-Takbīr (Allāhu Akbar) fills what is between the sky and the earth, and fasting is half of patience, and purification is half of faith.”
