Imran bin Husain narrated: “The Prophet (ﷺ) said to my father: ‘O Husain, how many deities do you worship now?‘ He said: ‘Seven. Six in the earth, and one above the heavens.’ He said: ‘So which of them do you take for your ardent requests and fears?’ He said: ‘The one above the heavens.’ He said: ‘O Husain, if you would but accept Islam, I would teach you two phrases that would benefit you.’” He said: “So when Husain accepted Islam, he said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, teach me the two phrases you promised me.’ So he (ﷺ) said: “Say: O Allah, inspire me with my guidance, and protect me from the evil of my soul (Allāhumma alhimnī rushdī, wa a`idhnī min sharri nafsī).’”

حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنِيعٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، عَنْ شَبِيبِ بْنِ شَيْبَةَ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ الْبَصْرِيِّ، عَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ، قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِأَبِي:‏‏‏‏ يَا حُصَيْنُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏كَمْ تَعْبُدُ الْيَوْمَ إِلَهًا ؟ قَالَ أَبِي:‏‏‏‏ سَبْعَةً سِتَّةً فِي الْأَرْضِ وَوَاحِدًا فِي السَّمَاءِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَأَيُّهُمْ تَعُدُّ لِرَغْبَتِكَ وَرَهْبَتِكَ ؟ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ الَّذِي فِي السَّمَاءِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ يَا حُصَيْنُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَمَا إِنَّكَ لَوْ أَسْلَمْتَ عَلَّمْتُكَ كَلِمَتَيْنِ تَنْفَعَانِكَ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَلَمَّا أَسْلَمَ حُصَيْنٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَلِّمْنِيَ الْكَلِمَتَيْنِ اللَّتَيْنِ وَعَدْتَنِي، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قُلِ اللَّهُمَّ أَلْهِمْنِي رُشْدِي وَأَعِذْنِي مِنْ شَرِّ نَفْسِي . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ غَرِيبٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَدْ رُوِيَ هَذَا الْحَدِيثُ عَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ مِنْ غَيْرِ هَذَا الْوَجْهِ.

عمران بن حصین کہتے ہیں کہ نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے میرے باپ سے پوچھا: ”اے حصین! آج کل تم کتنے معبودوں کو پوجتے ہو؟“ میرے باپ نے جواب دیا سات کو چھ زمین میں ( رہتے ہیں ) اور ایک آسمان میں، آپ نے پوچھا: ”ان میں سے کس کی سب سے زیادہ رغبت دلچسپی، امید اور خوف و ڈر کے ساتھ عبادت کرتے ہو؟“ انہوں نے کہا: اس کی جو آسمان میں ہے، آپ نے فرمایا: ”اے حصین! سنو، اگر تم اسلام لے آتے تو میں تمہیں دو کلمے سکھا دیتا وہ دونوں تمہیں برابر نفع پہنچاتے رہتے“، پھر جب حصین اسلام لے آئے تو انہوں نے عرض کیا: اللہ کے رسول! مجھے وہ دونوں کلمے سکھا دیجئیے جنہیں سکھانے کا آپ نے مجھ سے وعدہ فرمایا تھا، آپ نے فرمایا: ”کہو «اللهم ألهمني رشدي وأعذني من شر نفسي» ”اے اللہ! تو مجھے میری بھلائی کی باتیں سکھا دے، اور میرے نفس کے شر سے مجھے بچا لے“۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: ۱- یہ حدیث حسن غریب ہے، ۲- یہ حدیث عمران بن حصین سے اس سند کے علاوہ دوسری سند سے بھی آئی ہے۔

Anas bin Mallik [may Allah be pleased with him] narrates, saying: “I used to often hear the Prophet (ﷺ) supplicating with these words: ‘O Allah, I seek refuge in You from sadness, grief, helplessness, laziness, being stingy, overwhelming debt, and the overpowering of men (Allāhumma innī a`ūdhu bika minal-hammi wal-ḥazani wal-`ajzi wal-kasali wal-bukhli wa ḍala`id-dain wa ghalabatir-rijāl).’”

Anas narrated that : The Prophet (ﷺ) used to supplicate, saying: “O Allah, indeed, I seek refuge in You from laziness, weakness of old age, cowardice, stinginess, the trial of Al-Masih, and the punishment of the grave (Allāhumma innī a`ūdhu bika minal-kasali wal-harami wal-jubni wal-bukhli wa fitnatil-masīḥi wa `adhabil-qabr).”

Abdullah bin Amr narrated: “I saw the Prophet counting the Tasbih on his hand.”

Anas bin Malik narrated that: The Prophet (ﷺ) visited a man who was so emaciated that he had become like a baby bird. He (ﷺ) said to him: “And did you not used to supplicate? Did you not used to ask Your Lord for sound health?” He said: “I used to say: “O Allah, whatever You are going to punish me with in the Hereafter, then hasten it for me in this world.” So the Prophet (ﷺ) said: “Glory is to Allah, you are not capable of that” – or – “you are not able to stand that. Would you not say: ‘O Allah, give us good in this world, and good in the Hereafter, and spare us the punishment of the Fire (Allāhumma ātinā fid-dunyā ḥasanatan wa fil ākhirati ḥasanatan wa qinā `adhāban-nār).’”

Hisham bin Hassan narrated from Al-Hasan : concerning the saying of Allah: O our Lord, give us good in this world, and good in the Hereafter. He said: “Knowledge and worship in this world, and Paradise in the Hereafter.”

`Abdullah narrated that : the Prophet (ﷺ) used to supplicate: “O Allah, indeed, I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity, and sufficiency (Allāhumma innī as’alukal-hudā wat-tuqā, wal-`afāfa wal-ghinā).”
