Ibn Abbas said:
“I was ever determined to ask Umar about the two women, among the wives of the Prophet, about whom Allah [the Mighty and Sublime] said: If you two turn in repentance, your hearts are indeed so inclined… until once when Umar performed Hajj, and I performed Hajj along with him. I poured water for his Wudu from a water holder, and I said: ‘O Commander of the Believers! Who are the two women among the wives of the Prophet, about whom Allah said: If your two turn in repentance, you hearts are indeed so inclined?’ He said to me: ‘I am astonished at you O Ibn Abbas!’” – Az-Zubair (one of the narrators) said: “By Allah! He disliked what he asked him, but he did not withhold it from him.” – “He said to me: ‘It was Aishah and Hafsah.’” He said: “Then he began narrating the Hadith to me. He said: ‘We, the people of the Quraish, used to have the upper hand over our women. So when we arrived in Al-Madinah, we found a people whose women had the upper hand over them. Our women began acquiring the habits of their women. One day I became angry with my wife when she started talking back to to me, she said: “What bothers you about that? By Allah! The wives of the Prophet talk back to him, and one of them may stay away from him a whole day until the night?’” “He said: ‘I said to myself: “Whoever among them has done that, then she has thwarted herself and lost.’” “He said: ‘My house was in Al-Awali among those of Banu Umayyah, and I had a neighbor among the Ansar, and he and I would take turns visiting the Messenger of Allah.’ He said: ‘One day I would visit him and bring the news of the Revealation, and other than that, and one day he would visit him and bring the same. We heard stories that Ghassan were preparing their horses to attack us. He said: ‘One day he came to me in the evening and knocked on my door, so I went out to him. He said: “A horrible thing has happened.” I said: “Ghassan has come?” He said: “Worse than that. The Messenger of Allah has divorced his wives.’” He said: ‘I said to myself: “Hafsah has thwarted herself and is a loser! I though this would happen some day.’” He said: ‘After we prayed Subh, I put on my clothes, then went to visit Hafsah. There I found her crying. I said: “Has the Messenger of Allah divorced (all of you)?” She said: “I do not know. He has secluded himself in the upper room.’” He said: ‘So I wen, and came upon a black slave, I said: “Seek permission for Umar.’” He said: ‘So he entered then came out to me. He said: “I mentioned you to him, but he did not say anything.’” He said: ‘So I went to the Masjid. There I found a group of people sitting around the Minhar weeping, so I sat down with them. Then it became too much for me, so I went to the slave and said: “Seek permission for Umar.” He went in, then he came out to me and said: “I mentioned you to him, but he did not say anything.’” He said: ‘So I went to the Masjid again, and sat there until I could not take it any more, and I went back to the slave and said: “Seek permission for Umar.” He went in, then he came out to me and said: “I mentioned you to him but he did not say anything.’” He said: ‘So I turned to leave, when the slave called me back. He said: “Enter for he has given you permission.’” He said: ‘So I entered, and found the Prophet reclining upon a woven mat, and I saw the marks it left on his side. I said: “O Messenger of Allah! Have you divorced your women?” He said: “No.” I said: “Allahu Akbar! IF you only saw us O Messenger of Allah! We the people of the Quraish used to have the upper hand over our women, but when we came to Al-Madinah we found a people whose women had the upper hand over them. Our women began acquiring the habits of their women. One day I became angry with my wife, so when she started talking back to me I rebuked her and she said: ‘What bothers you about that? By Allah! The wives of the Prophet talk back to him, and one of them may stay away from him a whole day until the night?’” He said: “I said to Hafsah: ‘Do you talk back to the Messenger of Allah?’ She said: ‘Yes, and one of us may stay away from him all day until the night.’” He said: “I said: ‘Whoever among them has done that, then she has thwarted herself and lost. So any of you feel so secure against Allah becoming angry with you because of the anger of the Messenger of Allah, then she will be ruined?’ He said: ‘So the Prophet smiled.’ He said: ‘So I said to Hafsah: “Do not talk back to the Messenger of Allah, and don’t ask him for anything. Ask me for whatever you want. And do not be tempted by the behavior of your companions, for she is more beautiful than you, and more loved by the Messenger of Allah.’” He said: ‘So he smiled again, I said: “O Messenger of Allah! May I speak candidily?” He said: “Yes.’” He said: ‘I raised my head and did not see in the house except for three hides. So I said: “O Messenger of Allah! Supplicate to Allah to make your followers prosperous. For verily, He has made the Persians and the Romans prosper, and they do not worship Him.” He then sat up and said: “Do you have some doubts O Ibn Al-Khattab? They are a people whose good has been hastened for them in this world’s life.’” He said: ‘He swore that he would not enter upon his women for a month. So Allah censured him for that, and he made the atonement of an oath.’” Az-Zuhri said: “Urwah informed me that Aishah said: “When twenty-nine days passed, the Prophet entered upon me first, and he said: “O Aishah! I am about to mention something to you, but do not be hasty in reply until you consult your parents.’” She said: ‘Then he recited this Ayah: “O Prophet! Say to your wives.” She said: ‘I knew by Allah! That my parents would not tell me to part with him.’ She said: ‘I said: “Is it about this that I should consult with my parents? Indeed I want Allah and His Messenger and the abode of the Hereafter.” Ma’mar (one of the narrators) said: “Ayyub informed me that Aishah said to him: ‘O Messenger of Allah! Do not inform your wives that I chose you.’ So the Prophet said: ‘Allah send me only as one who conveys (Muballigh), He did not send me as one causing hardship.’”
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي ثَوْرٍ، قَال: سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا، يَقُولُ: لَمْ أَزَلْ حَرِيصًا أَنْ أَسْأَلَ عُمَرَ، عَنِ الْمَرْأَتَيْنِ مِنْ أَزْوَاجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ اللَّتَيْنِ قَالَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: إِنْ تَتُوبَا إِلَى اللَّهِ فَقَدْ صَغَتْ قُلُوبُكُمَا سورة التحريم آية 4 حَتَّى حَجَّ عُمَرُ وَحَجَجْتُ مَعَهُ، فَصَبَبْتُ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ الْإِدَاوَةِ فَتَوَضَّأَ، فَقُلْتُ: يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ، مَنِ الْمَرْأَتَانِ مِنْ أَزْوَاجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ اللَّتَانِ قَالَ اللَّهُ: إِنْ تَتُوبَا إِلَى اللَّهِ فَقَدْ صَغَتْ قُلُوبُكُمَا وَإِنْ تَظَاهَرَا عَلَيْهِ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ مَوْلاهُ سورة التحريم آية 4 فَقَالَ لِي: وَاعَجَبًا لَكَ يَا ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ الزُّهْرِيُّ: وَكَرِهَ وَاللَّهِ مَا سَأَلَهُ عَنْهُ وَلَمْ يَكْتُمْهُ، فَقَالَ: هِيَ عَائِشَةُ، وَحَفْصَةُ، قَالَ: ثُمَّ أَنْشَأَ يُحَدِّثُنِي الْحَدِيثَ، فَقَالَ: كُنَّا مَعْشَرَ قُرَيْشٍ نَغْلِبُ النِّسَاءَ، فَلَمَّا قَدِمْنَا الْمَدِينَةَ وَجَدْنَا قَوْمًا تَغْلِبُهُمْ نِسَاؤُهُمْ، فَطَفِقَ نِسَاؤُنَا يَتَعَلَّمْنَ مِنْ نِسَائِهِمْ، فَتَغَضَّبْتُ عَلَى امْرَأَتِي يَوْمًا، فَإِذَا هِيَ تُرَاجِعُنِي، فَأَنْكَرْتُ أَنْ تُرَاجِعَنِي، فَقَالَتْ: مَا تُنْكِرُ مِنْ ذَلِكَ، فَوَاللَّهِ إِنَّ أَزْوَاجَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَيُرَاجِعْنَهُ وَتَهْجُرُهُ إِحْدَاهُنَّ الْيَوْمَ إِلَى اللَّيْلِ، قَالَ: فَقُلْتُ فِي نَفْسِي قَدْ خَابَتْ مَنْ فَعَلَتْ ذَلِكَ مِنْهُنَّ وَخَسِرَتْ، قَالَ: وَكَانَ مَنْزِلِي بِالْعَوَالِي فِي بَنِي أُمَيَّةَ وَكَانَ لِي جَارٌ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ، كُنَّا نَتَنَاوَبُ النُّزُولَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَيَنْزِلُ يَوْمًا فَيَأْتِينِي بِخَبَرِ الْوَحْيِ وَغَيْرِهِ، وَأَنْزِلُ يَوْمًا فَآتِيهِ بِمِثْلِ ذَلِكَ، قَالَ: وَكُنَّا نُحَدِّثُ أَنَّ غَسَّانَ تُنْعِلُ الْخَيْلَ لِتَغْزُوَنَا، قَالَ: فَجَاءَنِي يَوْمًا عِشَاءً فَضَرَبَ عَلَيَّ الْبَابَ فَخَرَجْتُ إِلَيْهِ، فَقَالَ: حَدَثَ أَمْرٌ عَظِيمٌ، قُلْتُ: أَجَاءَتْ غَسَّانُ، قَالَ: أَعْظَمُ مِنْ ذَلِكَ طَلَّقَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نِسَاءَهُ، قَالَ: فَقُلْتُ فِي نَفْسِي قَدْ خَابَتْ حَفْصَةُ وَخَسِرَتْ، قَدْ كُنْتُ أَظُنُّ هَذَا كَائِنًا، قَالَ: فَلَمَّا صَلَّيْتُ الصُّبْحَ شَدَدْتُ عَلَيَّ ثِيَابِي، ثُمَّ انْطَلَقْتُ حَتَّى دَخَلْتُ عَلَى حَفْصَةَ فَإِذَا هِيَ تَبْكِي، فَقُلْتُ: أَطَلَّقَكُنَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، قَالَتْ: لَا أَدْرِي هُوَ ذَا مُعْتَزِلٌ فِي هَذِهِ الْمَشْرَبَةِ، قَالَ: فَانْطَلَقْتُ فَأَتَيْتُ غُلَامًا أَسْوَدَ، فَقُلْتُ: اسْتَأْذِنْ لِعُمَرَ، قَالَ: فَدَخَلَ ثُمَّ خَرَجَ إِلَيَّ، قَالَ: قَدْ ذَكَرْتُكَ لَهُ فَلَمْ يَقُلْ شَيْئًا، قَالَ: فَانْطَلَقْتُ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ فَإِذَا حَوْلَ الْمِنْبَرِ نَفَرٌ يَبْكُونَ، فَجَلَسْتُ إِلَيْهِمْ ثُمَّ غَلَبَنِي مَا أَجِدُ، فَأَتَيْتُ الْغُلَامَ، فَقُلْتُ: اسْتَأْذِنْ لِعُمَرَ، فَدَخَلَ ثُمَّ خَرَجَ إِلَيَّ، فَقَالَ: قَدْ ذَكَرْتُكَ لَهُ فَلَمْ يَقُلْ شَيْئًا، قَالَ: فَانْطَلَقْتُ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ أَيْضًا فَجَلَسْتُ ثُمَّ غَلَبَنِي مَا أَجِدُ، فَأَتَيْتُ الْغُلَامَ فَقُلْتُ: اسْتَأْذِنْ لِعُمَرَ، فَدَخَلَ ثُمَّ خَرَجَ إِلَيَّ، فَقَالَ: قَدْ ذَكَرْتُكَ لَهُ فَلَمْ يَقُلْ شَيْئًا، قَالَ: فَوَلَّيْتُ مُنْطَلِقًا، فَإِذَا الْغُلَامُ يَدْعُونِي، فَقَالَ: ادْخُلْ فَقَدْ أُذِنَ لَكَ، فَدَخَلْتُ فَإِذَا النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مُتَّكِئٌ عَلَى رَمْلِ حَصِيرٍ قَدْ رَأَيْتُ أَثَرَهُ فِي جَنْبَيْهِ، فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، أَطَلَّقْتَ نِسَاءَكَ ؟ قَالَ: لَا، قُلْتُ: اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ وَنَحْنُ مَعْشَرَ قُرَيْشٍ نَغْلِبُ النِّسَاءَ، فَلَمَّا قَدِمْنَا الْمَدِينَةَ وَجَدْنَا قَوْمًا تَغْلِبُهُمْ نِسَاؤُهُمْ فَطَفِقَ نِسَاؤُنَا يَتَعَلَّمْنَ مِنْ نِسَائِهِمْ، فَتَغَضَّبْتُ يَوْمًا عَلَى امْرَأَتِي فَإِذَا هِيَ تُرَاجِعُنِي، فَأَنْكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ، فَقَالَتْ: مَا تُنْكِرُ، فَوَاللَّهِ إِنَّ أَزْوَاجَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَيُرَاجِعْنَهُ وَتَهْجُرُهُ إِحْدَاهُنَّ الْيَوْمَ إِلَى اللَّيْلِ، قَالَ: فَقُلْتُ لِحَفْصَةَ: أَتُرَاجِعِينَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، قَالَتْ: نَعَمْ، وَتَهْجُرُهُ إِحْدَانَا الْيَوْمَ إِلَى اللَّيْلِ، فَقُلْتُ: قَدْ خَابَتْ مَنْ فَعَلَتْ ذَلِكَ مِنْكُنَّ وَخَسِرَتْ أَتَأْمَنُ إِحْدَاكُنَّ أَنْ يَغْضَبَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهَا لِغَضَبِ رَسُولِهِ، فَإِذَا هِيَ قَدْ هَلَكَتْ ؟، فَتَبَسَّمَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، قَالَ: فَقُلْتُ لِحَفْصَةَ: لَا تُرَاجِعِي رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَلَا تَسْأَلِيهِ شَيْئًا وَسَلِينِي مَا بَدَا لَكِ، وَلَا يَغُرَّنَّكِ إِنْ كَانَتْ صَاحِبَتُكِ أَوْسَمَ مِنْكِ وَأَحَبَّ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، قَالَ: فَتَبَسَّمَ أُخْرَى، فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، أَسْتَأْنِسُ ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ ، قَالَ: فَرَفَعْتُ رَأْسِي فَمَا رَأَيْتُ فِي الْبَيْتِ إِلَّا أَهَبَةً ثَلَاثَةً، قَالَ: فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، ادْعُ اللَّهَ أَنْ يُوَسِّعَ عَلَى أُمَّتِكَ فَقَدْ وَسَّعَ عَلَى فَارِسَ، وَالرُّومِ وَهُمْ لَا يَعْبُدُونَهُ، فَاسْتَوَى جَالِسًا، فَقَالَ: أَفِي شَكٍّ أَنْتَ يَا ابْنَ الْخَطَّابِ ؟ أُولَئِكَ قَوْمٌ عُجِّلَتْ لَهُمْ طَيِّبَاتُهُمْ فِي الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا، قَالَ: وَكَانَ أَقْسَمَ أَنْ لَا يَدْخُلَ عَلَى نِسَائِهِ شَهْرًا فَعَاتَبَهُ اللَّهُ فِي ذَلِكَ وَجَعَلَ لَهُ كَفَّارَةَ الْيَمِينِ . (حديث مرفوع) (حديث موقوف) قَالَ قَالَ الزُّهْرِيُّ: فَأَخْبَرَنِي عُرْوَةُ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتْ: فَلَمَّا مَضَتْ تِسْعٌ وَعِشْرُونَ دَخَلَ عَلَيَّ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَدَأَ بِي، قَالَ: يَا عَائِشَةُ، إِنِّي ذَاكِرٌ لَكِ شَيْئًا فَلَا تَعْجَلِي حَتَّى تَسْتَأْمِرِي أَبَوَيْكِ، قَالَتْ: ثُمَّ قَرَأَ هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ: يَأَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ قُلْ لأَزْوَاجِكَ سورة الأحزاب آية 28 الْآيَةَ، قَالَتْ: عَلِمَ وَاللَّهِ أَنَّ أَبَوَيَّ لَمْ يَكُونَا يَأْمُرَانِي بِفِرَاقِهِ، فَقُلْتُ: أَفِي هَذَا أَسْتَأْمِرُ أَبَوَيَّ فَإِنِّي أُرِيدُ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ وَالدَّارَ الْآخِرَةَ.
عبیداللہ بن عبداللہ بن ابی ثور کہتے ہیں کہ میں نے ابن عباس رضی الله عنہما کو کہتے ہوئے سنا: میری برابر یہ خواہش رہی کہ میں عمر رضی الله عنہ سے نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی ان دو بیویوں کے بارے میں پوچھوں جن کے بارے میں اللہ تعالیٰ نے فرمایا ہے «إن تتوبا إلى الله فقد صغت قلوبكما» ”اے نبی کی دونوں بیویو! اگر تم دونوں اللہ کے سامنے توبہ کر لو ( تو بہت بہتر ہے ) یقیناً تمہارے دل جھک پڑے ہیں ( یعنی حق سے ہٹ گئے ہیں“ ( التحریم: ۴ ) ، ( مگر مجھے موقع اس وقت ملا ) جب عمر رضی الله عنہ نے حج کیا اور میں نے بھی ان کے ساتھ حج کیا، میں نے ڈول سے پانی ڈال کر انہیں وضو کرایا، ( اسی دوران ) میں نے ان سے پوچھا: امیر المؤمنین! نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی وہ دو بیویاں کون ہیں جن کے بارے میں اللہ نے کہا ہے «إن تتوبا إلى الله فقد صغت قلوبكما وإن تظاهرا عليه فإن الله هو مولاه» عمر رضی الله عنہ نے مجھ سے حیرت سے کہا: ہائے تعجب! اے ابن عباس ( تمہیں اتنی سی بات معلوم نہیں ) ( زہری کہتے ہیں قسم اللہ کی ابن عباس رضی الله عنہما نے جو بات پوچھی وہ انہیں بری لگی مگر انہوں نے حقیقت چھپائی نہیں بتا دی ) انہوں نے مجھے بتایا: وہ عائشہ اور حفصہ رضی الله عنہما ہیں، پھر وہ مجھے پوری بات بتانے لگے کہا: ہم قریش والے عورتوں پر حاوی رہتے اور انہیں دبا کر رکھتے تھے، مگر جب مدینہ آئے تو یہاں ایسے لوگ ملے جن پر ان کی بیویاں غالب اور حاوی ہوتی تھیں، تو ہماری عورتیں ان کی عورتوں سے ان کے رنگ ڈھنگ سیکھنے لگیں، ایک دن ایسا ہوا کہ میں اپنی بیوی پر غصہ ہو گیا، کیا دیکھتا ہوں کہ وہ بھی مجھے پلٹ کر جواب دینے لگی، مجھے ( سخت ) ناگوار ہوا کہ وہ مجھے پلٹ کر جواب دے، اس نے کہا: آپ کو یہ بات کیوں ناگوار لگ رہی ہے؟ قسم اللہ کی نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی بعض بیویاں بھی آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو پلٹ کر جواب دے رہی ہیں اور دن سے رات تک آپ کو چھوڑے رہتی ہیں ( روٹھی اور اینٹھی رہتی ) ہیں، میں نے اپنے جی میں کہا: آپ کی بیویوں میں سے جس نے بھی ایسا کیا وہ ناکام ہوئی اور گھاٹے میں رہی، میرا گھر مدینہ کے بنی امیہ نامی محلہ میں عوالی کے علاقہ میں تھا، اور میرا ایک انصاری پڑوسی تھا، ہم باری باری رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے پاس آیا کرتے تھے، ایک دن وہ آتا اور جو کچھ ہوا ہوتا وہ واپس جا کر مجھے بتاتا، اور ایسے ہی ایک دن میں آپ کے پاس آتا اور وحی وغیرہ کی جو بھی خبر ہوتی میں جا کر اسے بتاتا، ہم ( اس وقت ) باتیں کیا کرتے تھے کہ اہل غسان ہم سے لڑائی کرنے کے لیے اپنے گھوڑوں کے پیروں میں نعلیں ٹھونک رہے ہیں، ایک دن عشاء کے وقت ہمارے پڑوسی انصاری نے آ کر، دروازہ کھٹکھٹایا، میں دروازہ کھول کر اس کے پاس گیا، اس نے کہا: ایک بڑی بات ہو گئی ہے، میں نے پوچھا: کیا اہل غسان ہم پر چڑھائی کر آئے ہیں؟ اس نے کہا: اس سے بھی بڑا معاملہ پیش آ گیا ہے، رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے اپنی بیویوں کو طلاق دے دی ہے، میں نے اپنے جی میں کہا: حفصہ ناکام رہی گھاٹے میں پڑی، میں سوچا کرتا تھا کہ ایسا ہونے والا ہے، جب میں نے فجر پڑھی تو اپنے کپڑے پہنے اور چل پڑا، حفصہ کے پاس پہنچا تو وہ ( بیٹھی ) رو رہی تھی، میں نے پوچھا: کیا تم سب بیویوں کو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے طلاق دے دی ہے؟ انہوں نے کہا: مجھے نہیں معلوم ہے، البتہ آپ اس بالاخانے پر الگ تھلگ بیٹھے ہیں، عمر رضی الله عنہ کہتے ہیں: میں ( اٹھ کر آپ سے ملنے ) چلا، میں ایک کالے رنگ کے ( دربان ) لڑکے کے پاس آیا اور اس سے کہا: جاؤ، آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے عمر کے آنے کی اجازت مانگو، عمر رضی الله عنہ کہتے ہیں: وہ لڑکا آپ کے پاس گیا پھر نکل کر میرے پاس آیا اور کہا: میں نے آپ کے آنے کی خبر کی مگر آپ نے کچھ نہ کہا، میں مسجد چلا گیا ( دیکھا ) منبر کے آس پاس کچھ لوگ بیٹھے رو رہے تھے، میں بھی انہیں لوگوں کے پاس بیٹھ گیا، ( مجھے سکون نہ ملا ) میری فکرو تشویش بڑھتی گئی، میں اٹھ کر دوبارہ لڑکے کے پاس چلا آیا، میں نے کہا: جاؤ آپ سے عمر کے اندر آنے کی اجازت مانگو، تو وہ اندر گیا پھر میرے پاس واپس آیا، اس نے کہا: میں نے آپ کا ذکر نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے کیا، لیکن آپ نے کوئی جواب نہ دیا، عمر رضی الله عنہ کہتے ہیں: میں دوبارہ مسجد میں آ کر بیٹھ گیا، مگر مجھ پر پھر وہی فکر سوار ہو گئی، میں ( سہ بارہ ) لڑکے کے پاس آ گیا اور اس سے کہا: جاؤ اور آپ سے عمر کے اندر آنے کی اجازت مانگو، وہ لڑکا اندر گیا پھر میرے پاس واپس آیا، کہا: میں نے آپ سے آپ کے آنے کا ذکر کیا مگر آپ نے کوئی جواب نہ دیا، ( یہ سن کر ) میں پلٹ پڑا، یکایک لڑکا مجھے پکارنے لگا، ( آ جائیے آ جائیے ) اندر تشریف لے جائیے، رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے آپ کو اجازت دے دی ہے، میں اندر چلا گیا، میں نے دیکھا آپ بوریئے پر ٹیک لگائے ہوئے ہیں اور اس کا اثر و نشان آپ کے پہلوؤں میں دیکھا، میں نے پوچھا: اللہ کے رسول! کیا آپ نے اپنی بیویوں کو طلاق دے دی ہے؟ آپ نے فرمایا: ”نہیں“، میں نے کہا: اللہ اکبر، آپ نے دیکھا ہو گا اللہ کے رسول! ہم قریشی لوگ اپنی بیویوں پر کنٹرول رکھتے تھے، لیکن جب ہم مدینہ آ گئے تو ہمارا سابقہ ایک ایسی قوم سے پڑ گیا ہے جن پر ان کی بیویاں حاوی اور غالب رہتی ہیں، ہماری عورتیں ان کی عورتوں سے ( ان کے طور طریقے ) سیکھنے لگیں، ایک دن اپنی بیوی پر غصہ ہوا تو وہ مجھے پلٹ کر جواب دینے لگی، مجھے یہ سخت برا لگا، کہنے لگی آپ کو کیوں اتنا برا لگ رہا ہے، قسم اللہ کی نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی بعض بیویاں بھی آپ کو پلٹ کر جواب دے رہی ہیں اور کوئی بھی عورت دن سے رات تک آپ کو چھوڑ کر ( روٹھی و اینٹھی ) رہتی ہے، میں نے حفصہ سے کہا: کیا تم پلٹ کر رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو جواب دیتی ہو؟ اس نے کہا: ہاں، ہم میں کوئی بھی آپ سے ( خفا ہو کر ) دن سے رات تک آپ سے علیحدہ رہتی ہے، میں نے کہا: تم میں سے جس نے بھی ایسا کیا وہ گھاٹے میں رہی اور ناکام ہوئی، کیا تم میں سے ہر کوئی اس بات سے مطمئن ہے کہ اللہ اپنے رسول کی ناراضگی کے سبب اس سے ناراض و ناخوش ہو جائے اور وہ ہلاک و برباد ہو جائے؟ ( یہ سن کر ) آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم مسکرا پڑے، عمر رضی الله عنہ نے کہا: میں نے حفصہ سے کہا: رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو پلٹ کر جواب نہ دو اور نہ آپ سے کسی چیز کا مطالبہ کرو، جس چیز کی تمہیں حاجت ہو وہ مجھ سے مانگ لیا کرو، اور تم بھروسے میں نہ رہو تمہاری سوکن تو تم سے زیادہ خوبصورت اور رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی چہیتی ہے ۱؎ ( یہ سن کر ) رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم پھر مسکرا دیئے، میں نے کہا: اللہ کے رسول! کیا میں دل بستگی کی بات کروں؟ آپ نے فرمایا: ”ہاں“، عمر کہتے ہیں: میں نے سر اٹھایا تو گھر میں تین کچی کھالوں کے سوا کوئی اور چیز دکھائی نہ دی، میں نے عرض کیا، اللہ کے رسول! اللہ سے دعا فرمایئے کہ وہ آپ کی امت کو وہ کشادگی و فراوانی دے جو اس نے روم و فارس کو دی ہے، جب کہ وہ اس کی عبادت و بندگی بھی نہیں کرتے ہیں، ( یہ سن کر ) آپ جم کر بیٹھ گئے، فرمایا: ”خطاب کے بیٹے! کیا تم ابھی تک اسلام کی حقانیت کے بارے میں شک و شبہہ میں پڑے ہوئے ہو؟ یہ ایسے لوگ ہیں جنہیں ان کے حصہ کی اچھی چیزیں پہلے ہی دنیا میں دے دی گئی ہیں“، عمر رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں: آپ نے قسم کھائی تھی کہ آپ ایک مہینہ تک اپنی بیویوں کے پاس نہ جائیں گے، اس پر اللہ تعالیٰ نے فہمائش کی اور آپ کو کفارہ یمین ( قسم کا کفارہ ) ادا کرنے کا حکم دیا۔ زہری کہتے ہیں: عروہ نے عائشہ رضی الله عنہا سے روایت کرتے ہوئے کہا کہ عائشہ رضی الله عنہا نے بتایا کہ جب مہینے کے ۲۹ دن گزر گئے تو نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سب سے پہلے میرے پاس تشریف لائے، آپ نے فرمایا: ”میں تم سے ایک بات کا ذکر کرنے والا ہوں، اپنے والدین سے مشورہ کئے بغیر جواب دینے میں جلدی نہ کرنا“، پھر آپ نے یہ آیت پڑھی «يا أيها النبي قل لأزواجك» ( آخر آیت تک ) ”اے نبی! اپنی بیویوں سے کہہ دیجئیے کہ اگر تمہیں دنیا کی زندگی اور اس کی خوش رنگینیاں چاہیئے، تو آؤ میں تمہیں کچھ دے دوں، اور خوش اسلوبی سے تم کو رخصت کر دوں، اور اگر تمہیں اللہ اور اس کا رسول چاہیں اور آخرت کی بھلائی چاہیں تو بیشک اللہ تعالیٰ نے تم میں سے نیک عمل کرنے والیوں کے لیے اجر عظیم تیار کر رکھا ہے“ ( الاحزاب: ۲۸، ۲۹ ) ، عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا کہتی ہیں: آپ جانتے تھے، قسم اللہ کی میرے والدین مجھے آپ سے علیحدگی اختیار کر لینے کا ہرگز حکم نہ دیں گے، میں نے کہا: کیا میں اس معاملے میں والدین سے مشورہ کروں؟ میں تو اللہ اور اس کے رسول اور آخرت کے گھر کو چاہتی اور پسند کرتی ہوں۔

Abdul-Wahid bin Sulaim said: “I arrived in Makkah and met Ata bin Abi Rabah. I said: ‘O Abu Muhammad! Some people with us speak about Al-Qadar.’ Ata said: ‘I met Al-Walid bin Ubadah bin As-Samit and he said: “My father narrated to me, he said: ‘I heard the Messenger of Allah saying: “Verily the first of what Allah created was the Pen. He said to it: “Write.” So it wrote what will be forever.’”

Al-Ahnaf bin Wais narrated : from Al-Abbas bin Abdul-Muttalib who claimed that he was sitting in Al-Batha with a group, and the Messenger of Allah was sitting amongst them, when a cloud passed over them. They looked at it, and the Messenger of Allah said: ‘Di you know what its name it?’ They said: ‘Yes. This is As-Sahab (cloud).’ The Messenger of Allah saidl: ‘Al-Muzn (rain cloud)?’ They said: ‘Yes. This is As-Sahab (cloud).’ Then the Messenger of Allah said: ‘Do you know how much distance there is between the heavens and the earth?’ They said: ‘No, by Allah we do not know.’ He said: ‘The distance between every two of them is either seventy-one, or two, or three, years, and the heaven that is above that one is like that.’ Until he enumerated Seven heavens like that. Then he said: ‘Above the seventh heaven is a sea, Between its highest part and its lowest is just as there is between one heaven to another heaven. Then above their backs is the Throne. Between its lowest and highest parts is the same as what is between one heaven to another heaven, and Allah is above that.’”

Ibn Abbas [may Allah be pleased with them] said: the Messenger of Allah did not recite for the jinns nor did he see them. The Messenger of Allah went out with a group of his Companions towards the Ukaz market. Something had been intervening between the Shayatin and the news from the heavens, and shooting stars has been sent upon them, so the Shayatin returned to their people and they said to them: ‘What is wrong with you?’ They replied: ‘Something has been intervening between us and the news of the heavens except that something has happened. So travel east and west in the earth and look for what is it that intervenes between you an between the news of the heavens.’” He said: “So they went traveling east and west on the earth, seeking whatever it was that had been intervening between them and the news of the heavens. A group of those who were traveling towards Tihamah headed in the direction of the Messenger of Allah, while he was at Nakhlah, enroute to the Ukaz market. He was performing Salat Al-Fajr with his Companions. When they heard the Quran they listened to it, and they said: ‘By Allah! This is what has been intervening between us and the news of the heavens.’” He said: “Then they returned to their people and said: ‘O our people! Verily we heard a wonderful Recitation! It guides to the Right Path, and we have believed therein, and we shall never join anything with our Lord.’ So Allah, Blessed is He and Most High, revealed to His Prophet: Say: ‘It has been revealed to me that a group of the jinn listened.’ So the saying of the jinns was only revealed to him.”

Ibn Abbas said: “The jinns used to ascent through the heavens, trying to listen about the Revealation. So when they heard a statement, they would add nine to it. The statement that they heard would be true, while what they added was false. So it was with the advent of the Messenger of Allah that they were prevented from their places. So they mentioned that to Iblis – and the stars were not shot at them before that. So Iblis said to them: ‘This is naught but an event that has occurred in the earth.’ So he sent out his armies, and they found the Messenger of Allah standing in Salat between two mountains” – I think he said “in Makkah” – “So they (returned) to meet with him (Iblis), and informed him. He said: ‘This is the event that has happened on the earth.’”
