Al-Hasan bin Muhammad – and he is Al-Hanafiyyah- narrated from Ubaidallah bin Abi Rafi who said: “I heard Ali bin Abi Talib saying: “the Messenger of Allah dispatched us – myself, Az-Zubair, and Al-Miqad bin Al- Aswad. He said: “Proceed until you reach Rawdah Khakh, where there is a lady carrying a letter. Take the letter from her and bring it to me.” So we proceeded on our way with our horses galloping until we reached the Rawdah. There we found the lady and said to her: “Give me the letter.” She said: “I have no letter.” We said: “Either you take out the letter, or we shall take off your clothes.’” He said: ‘So she took it out of her braid.’ He said: ‘We brought it to the Messenger of Allah, and it was from Hatib bin Abi Balta’ah, addressed to some of people among the idolaters of Makkah, infrmed them of some matter regarding the Prophet. So he said: “What is this O Hatib?” He said: “Do not be hasty with me O Messenger of Allah! I was a person who is an ally to the Quraish, not being related to them. The Muhajirun who are with you have relatives who can protect their families and their wealth in Makkah. So since I have no lineage among them, I wanted to do them a favor, so they might protect my relatives. I did not do this out of disbelief, nor to renegade from my religion, nor did I do it to chose disbelief [after Islam].” The Prophet said: “He said the truth.” Umar bin Al-Khattab said: “Allow me to chop off the head of this hypocrite!” The Prophet said: “Indeed he participated in (the battle of) Badr. You do not know, perhaps Allah looked at those who attended Badr and said: ‘O people of Badr! Do as you like, for I have forgiven you.’” He said: ‘It was about him, that this Surah was revealed: O you who believe! Do not take My enemies and your enemies as protecting friends showing affection towards them.’”

حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ، عَنْ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ هُوَ ابْنُ الْحَنَفِيَّةِ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي رَافِعٍ، قَال:‏‏‏‏ سَمِعْتُ عَلِيَّ بْنَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ، يَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ بَعَثَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَا وَالزُّبَيْرَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَالْمِقْدَادَ بْنَ الْأَسْوَدِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ انْطَلِقُوا حَتَّى تَأْتُوا رَوْضَةَ خَاخٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَإِنَّ فِيهَا ظَعِينَةً مَعَهَا كِتَابٌ فَخُذُوهُ مِنْهَا فَأْتُونِي بِهِ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَخَرَجْنَا تَتَعَادَى بِنَا خَيْلُنَا حَتَّى أَتَيْنَا الرَّوْضَةَ فَإِذَا نَحْنُ بِالظَّعِينَةِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقُلْنَا:‏‏‏‏ أَخْرِجِي الْكِتَابَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَتْ:‏‏‏‏ مَا مَعِي مِنْ كِتَابٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقُلْنَا:‏‏‏‏ لَتُخْرِجِنَّ الْكِتَابَ أَوْ لَتُلْقِيَنَّ الثِّيَابَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَأَخْرَجَتْهُ مِنْ عِقَاصِهَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَأَتَيْنَا بِهِ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَإِذَا هُوَ مِنْ حَاطِبِ بْنِ أَبِي بَلْتَعَةَ إِلَى نَاسٍ مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ بِمَكَّةَ يُخْبِرُهُمْ بِبَعْضِ أَمْرِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ مَا هَذَا يَا حَاطِبُ ؟ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ لَا تَعْجَلْ عَلَيَّ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏إِنِّي كُنْتُ امْرَأً مُلْصَقًا فِي قُرَيْشٍ وَلَمْ أَكُنْ مِنْ أَنْفُسِهَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَكَانَ مَنْ مَعَكَ مِنَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ لَهُمْ قَرَابَاتٌ يَحْمُونَ بِهَا أَهْلِيهِمْ وَأَمْوَالَهُمْ بِمَكَّةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَأَحْبَبْتُ إِذْ فَاتَنِي ذَلِكَ مِنْ نَسَبٍ فِيهِمْ أَنْ أَتَّخِذَ فِيهِمْ يَدًا يَحْمُونَ بِهَا قَرَابَتِي، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَمَا فَعَلْتُ ذَلِكَ كُفْرًا وَلَا ارْتِدَادًا عَنْ دِينِي وَلَا رِضًا بِالْكُفْرِ بَعْدَ الْإِسْلَامِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ صَدَقَ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ:‏‏‏‏ دَعْنِي يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَضْرِبْ عُنُقَ هَذَا الْمُنَافِقِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّهُ قَدْ شَهِدَ بَدْرًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَمَا يُدْرِيكَ لَعَلَّ اللَّهَ اطَّلَعَ عَلَى أَهْلِ بَدْرٍ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ اعْمَلُوا مَا شِئْتُمْ فَقَدْ غَفَرْتُ لَكُمْ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ وَفِيهِ أُنْزِلَتْ هَذِهِ السُّورَةُ يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَا تَتَّخِذُوا عَدُوِّي وَعَدُوَّكُمْ أَوْلِيَاءَ السُّورَةَ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ عَمْرٌو:‏‏‏‏ وَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ ابْنَ أَبِي رَافِعٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَكَانَ كَاتِبًا لِعَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ. هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَفِيهِ عَنْ عُمَرَ وَجَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَرَوَى غَيْرُ وَاحِدٍ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ بْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏نَحْوَ هَذَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَذَكَرُوا هَذَا الْحَرْفَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَالُوا:‏‏‏‏ لَتُخْرِجِنَّ الْكِتَابَ أَوْ لَتُلْقِيَنَّ الثِّيَابَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَدْ رُوِيَ أَيْضًا عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ السُّلَمِيِّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَلِيٍّ نَحْوَ هَذَا الْحَدِيثِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ذَكَرَ بَعْضُهُمْ فِيهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ لَتُخْرِجِنَّ الْكِتَابَ أَوْ لَنُجَرِّدَنَّكِ.

عبیداللہ بن ابورافع کہتے ہیں کہ میں نے علی رضی الله عنہ کو کہتے ہوئے سنا ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے مجھے زبیر اور مقداد بن اسود کو بھیجا، فرمایا: جاؤ، روضہ خاخ ۱؎ پر پہنچو وہاں ایک ھودج سوار عورت ہے، اس کے پاس ایک خط ہے، وہ خط جا کر اس سے لے لو، اور میرے پاس لے آؤ، چنانچہ ہم نکل پڑے، ہمارے گھوڑے ہمیں لیے لیے دوڑ میں ایک دوسرے سے آگے بڑھ جانے کی کوشش کر رہے تھے، ہم روضہ پہنچے، ہمیں ہودج سوار عورت مل گئی، ہم نے اس سے کہا: خط نکال، اس نے کہا: ہمارے پاس کوئی خط نہیں ہے، ہم نے کہا: خط نکالتی ہے یا پھر اپنے کپڑے اتارتی ہے؟ ( یہ سن کر ) اپنی چوٹی ( جوڑے ) سے اس نے خط نکالا، ہم اسے لے کر رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے پاس آ گئے، وہ خط حاطب بن ابی بلتعہ رضی الله عنہ کی جانب سے تھا، مکہ کے کچھ مشرکین کے پاس بھیجا گیا تھا، نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے بعض اقدامات کی انہیں خبر دی گئی تھی، آپ نے فرمایا: ”حاطب! یہ کیا ہے؟“ انہوں نے کہا: اللہ کے رسول! ہمارے خلاف حکم فرمانے میں جلدی نہ کریں، میں ایک ایسا شخص تھا جو قریش کے ساتھ مل جل کر رہتا تھا، لیکن ( خاندانی طور پر ) قریشی نہ تھا، باقی جو مہاجرین آپ کے ساتھ تھے ان کی وہاں رشتہ داریاں تھیں جس کی وجہ سے وہ رشتہ دار مکہ میں ان کے گھر والوں اور ان کے مالوں کی حفاظت و حمایت کرتے تھے، میں نے مناسب سمجھا کہ جب ہمارا ان سے کوئی خاندانی و نسبی تعلق نہیں ہے تو میں ان پر احسان کر کے کسی کا ہاتھ پکڑ لوں جس کی وجہ سے یہ اہل مکہ ہمارے گھر اور رشتہ داروں کی حفاظت و حمایت کریں، میں نے ایسا کفر اختیار کر لینے یا اپنے دین سے مرتد ہو جانے یا کفر کو پسند کر لینے کی وجہ سے نہیں کیا ہے، نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”حاطب نے سچ اور ( صحیح ) بات کہی ہے“، عمر بن خطاب رضی الله عنہ نے کہا: اللہ کے رسول! مجھے اجازت دیجئیے، میں اس منافق کی گردن مار دوں، نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”یہ جنگ بدر میں موجود رہے ہیں، تمہیں معلوم نہیں، یقیناً اللہ نے بدر والوں کی حالت ( یعنی ان کے جذبہ جاں فروشی ) کو دیکھ کر کہہ دیا ہے: جو چاہو کرو ہم نے تمہارے گناہ بخش دیئے ہیں“، اسی سلسلے میں یہ پوری سورۃ «يا أيها الذين آمنوا لا تتخذوا عدوي وعدوكم أولياء» ”اے لوگو! جو ایمان لائے ہو، میرے اور اپنے دشمنوں کو دوست نہ بناؤ، تم انہیں دوستی کا پیغام بھیجتے ہو“ ( الممتحنۃ: ۱ ) ، آخر تک نازل ہوئی۔ عمرو ( راوی حدیث ) کہتے ہیں: میں نے عبیداللہ بن ابی رافع کو دیکھا ہے، وہ علی رضی الله عنہ کے کاتب ( محرر ) تھے۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: ۱- یہ حدیث حسن صحیح ہے، ۲- اسی طرح کئی ایک نے یہ حدیث سفیان بن عیینہ سے روایت کی ہے، اور ان سبھوں نے بھی یہی لفظ ذکر کیا ہے کہ علی اور زبیر رضی الله عنہما وغیرہ نے کہا: تمہیں خط نکال کر دینا ہو گا، ورنہ پھر تمہیں کپڑے اتارنے پڑیں گے، ۳- ابوعبدالرحمٰن السلمی سے بھی یہ حدیث مروی ہوئی ہے، انہوں نے علی رضی الله عنہ سے اسی حدیث کے مانند روایت کیا ہے، ۴- اس باب میں عمر اور جابر بن عبداللہ رضی الله عنہم سے بھی احادیث آئی ہیں۔ اور بعضوں نے ذکر کیا کہ انہوں نے کہا کہ تو خط نکال دے ورنہ ہم تجھے ننگا کر دیں گے۔

Ma’mar narrated from Az-Zuhri, from Urwah that Aishah said: “The Messenger of Allah would not have examined (the women) except for the Ayah in which Allah said: When believing come to you pledging to you.” Ma’mar said: “Ibn Tawus informed me from his father who said: ‘The hand of the Messenger of Allah did not touch the hand of a women he had not acquired.’”

Shahr bin Hawshab said: “Umm Salamah Al-Ansariyyah narrated to us, she said: ‘A woman said: “What is this Ma’ruf for which we are not to disobey in?” He (pbuh) said: “[That you not wail.]” I said: “O Messenger of Allah! Verily Banu so-and-so comforted me in the case of my uncle, and I must reciprocate for them.’ But he refused to allow me. So I asked him again numerous times, then he permitted me to reciprocate for them. So after reciprocating for the, I did not wail for anyone else until this time. And there does not remain a woman except that she has wailed besides me.’”

[Abu An-Nasr narrated : from Ibn Abbas, regarding the saying of Allah, the Most High: When believing women come to you as emigrants, examine them. He said: “When a woman come to the Prophet to accept Islam, she would have to take and an oath by Allah: ‘I have not left out of anger with my husband, I have not left except out of love for Allah and His Messenger.’”]

Abdullah bin Salam said: “A group of us Companions of the Messenger of Allah sat talking, and we said: ‘If we knew which deed was most beloved to Alllah then we would do it.’ So Allah, Most High, revealed: Whatsoever is in the heavens and whatsoever is on the earth glorifies Allah. And He is Almighty, the All-Wise. O you who believe! Why do you say that which you do not do?” Abdullah bin Salam said: “So the Messenger of Allah recited it to us.” Abu Salamah (one of the narrators) said: “So Ibn Salam recited it to us.” Yahya (one of the narrators) said: “So Abu Salamah narrated it to us.” Ibn Kathir said: “So Al-Awza’i recited it to us.” Abdullah said: “So Ibn Kathir recited it to us.”

Abu Hurairah said: “We were with the Messenger of Allah when Surat Al-Jumuah was revealed, so he recited it until he reached: And other among them who have not yet joined them, A man said to him: ‘O Messenger of Allah! Who are these people who have not yet joined us?’ But he did not say anything to him.” He said: “Salman [Al-Farsi] was among us.” He said: “So the Messenger of Allah placed his hand upon Salman and said: ‘By the One in whose Hand is my soul! If faith were on Pleiades then men among these people would reach it.”’

Jabir said: “The Prophet was standing and delivering a Khutbah for us on one Friday, when a caravan arrived in Al-Madinah. So the Companions of the Messenger of Allah rushed off until only twelve men remained. Among them were Abu Bakr and Umar. And This Ayah was revealed: And when they see some merchandise or some amusement, they disperse headlong to it.”
