Qutbah bin Malik narrated: I heard Allah's Messenger reciting for Fajr: And tall date palms in the first Rak'ah.

حَدَّثَنَا هَنَّادٌ، حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، عَنْ مِسْعَرٍ، وَسُفْيَانَ، عَنْ زِيَادِ بْنِ عَلَاقَةَ، عَنْ عَمِّهِ قُطْبَةَ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقْرَأُ فِي الْفَجْرِ وَالنَّخْلَ بَاسِقَاتٍ فِي الرَّكْعَةِ الْأُولَى . قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ وَفِي الْبَاب عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ حُرَيْثٍ،‏‏‏‏ وَجَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ،‏‏‏‏ وَعَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ،‏‏‏‏ وَأَبِي بَرْزَةَ،‏‏‏‏ وَأُمِّ سَلَمَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ حَدِيثُ قُطْبَةَ بْنِ مَالِكٍ حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَرُوِيَ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ قَرَأَ فِي الصُّبْحِ ب:‏‏‏‏ الْوَاقِعَةِ وَرُوِيَ عَنْهُ أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَقْرَأُ فِي الْفَجْرِ مِنْ سِتِّينَ آيَةً إِلَى مِائَةٍ وَرُوِيَ عَنْهُ أَنَّهُ قَرَأَ:‏‏‏‏ إِذَا الشَّمْسُ كُوِّرَتْ وَرُوِي عَنْ عُمَرَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّهُ كَتَبَ إِلَى أَبِي مُوسَى، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنِ اقْرَأْ فِي الصُّبْحِ بِطِوَالِ الْمُفَصَّلِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ وَعَلَى هَذَا الْعَمَلُ عِنْدَ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَبِهِ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ سفيان الثوري،‏‏‏‏ وَابْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ،‏‏‏‏ وَالشَّافِعِيُّ.

قطبہ بن مالک رضی الله عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ میں نے رسول اللہ صلی الله علیہ وسلم کو فجر میں پہلی رکعت میں «والنخل باسقات» پڑھتے سنا ۱؎۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: ۱- قطبہ بن مالک کی حدیث حسن صحیح ہے، ۲- اس باب میں عمرو بن حریث، جابر بن سمرہ، عبداللہ بن سائب، ابوبرزہ اور ام سلمہ رضی الله عنہم سے بھی احادیث آئی ہیں، ۳- اور نبی اکرم صلی الله علیہ وسلم سے مروی ہے کہ آپ نے فجر میں سورۃ الواقعہ پڑھی، ۴- یہ بھی مروی ہے کہ آپ فجر میں ساٹھ سے لے کر سو آیتیں پڑھا کرتے تھے، ۵- اور یہ بھی مروی ہے کہ آپ نے «إذا الشمس كورت» پڑھی، ۶- اور عمر رضی الله عنہ سے مروی ہے کہ انہوں نے ابوموسیٰ اشعری کو لکھا کہ فجر میں طوال مفصل پڑھا کرو ۱؎، ۷- اہل علم کا اسی پر عمل ہے اور یہی سفیان ثوری، ابن مبارک اور شافعی کا قول ہے۔

Jabir bin Samurah narrated: For Zuhr and Asr, Allah's Messenger would recite: By the heavens, holding the Buruj and (By the heavens and At-Tariq) and similar to them.

Umm Al-Fadl narrated: Allah's Messenger came out to us with his head bandaged from his illness. He prayed Maghrib, reciting (Surat) Al-Mursalat. [She said:] He did not pray it again until he met Allah the Might and Sublime.

Abdullah bin Buraidah narrated that his father (Buraidah) said: Allah's Messenger would recite: By the sun and its brightness, or similar Surah for the latter Isha (prayer).

Al-Bara bin Azib narrated: The Prophet would recite: By the fig and the olive for Isha.

Ubadah bin As-Samit narrated: Allah's Messenger prayed the Subh prayer, and he had difficulty with the recitation. When turned (after finishing) he said: 'I think that you are reciting behind your Imam?' He said: We said: 'Yes, Messenger of Allah, by Allah!' He said: 'Do not do that, except for Umm Al-Kitab, for there is no Salat for one who does not recite it.'

Abu Hurairah narrated: Allah's Messenger turned (after praying) from a Salat in which he recited aloud and said: 'Has any one of you recite along with me just now?' A man said: 'Yes, O Messenger of Allah.' He said: 'Indeed I said to myself: Why was I being contended with for the Quran?' He (Az-Zuhri one of the narrators) said: So when they heard that from Allah's Messenger, the people stopped reciting with Allah's Messenger in the prayers that Allah's Messenger recited aloud.
