Narrated Ibn 'Umar: that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) ordered trimming the mustache and leaving the beard to grow.

حَدَّثَنَا الْأَنْصَارِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا مَعْنٌ، حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكٌ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ نَافِعٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ أَمَرَنَا بِإِحْفَاءِ الشَّوَارِبِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَإِعْفَاءِ اللِّحَى ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ نَافِعٍ هُوَ مَوْلَى ابْنِ عُمَرَ ثِقَةٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَعُمَرُ بْنُ نَافِعٍ ثِقَةٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَعَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ نَافِعٍ مَوْلَى ابْنِ عُمَرَ يُضَعَّفُ.

عبداللہ بن عمر رضی الله عنہما کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ہمیں مونچھیں کٹوانے اور ڈاڑھیاں بڑھانے کا حکم دیا ۱؎۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: ۱- یہ حدیث حسن صحیح ہے، ۲- ابن عمر رضی الله عنہما کے آزاد کردہ غلام ابوبکر بن نافع ثقہ آدمی ہیں، ۳- عمر بن نافع یہ بھی ثقہ ہیں، ۴- عبداللہ بن نافع ابن عمر رضی الله عنہما کے آزاد کردہ غلام ہیں اور حدیث بیان کرنے میں ضعیف ہیں۔

Narrated Bahz bin Hakim: My father narrated to me from my grandfather, who said: 'I said: O Messenger of Allah! Regarding our 'Awrah, what of it must we cover and what of it may we leave? He said: Protect your 'Awrah except from your wife or what your right hand possesses. ' He said: What about a man with another man? He said: If you are able to not let anyone see it, then do so. I said: What about a man when he is alone? He said: Allah is most deserving of being shy from Him.
