Narrated Safwan bin Assal: A Jew said to his companion: 'Accompany us to this Prophet.' So his companion said: 'Do not say: Prophet . For if he hears you (say that) then he will be very happy.' So they went to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) to question him about nine clear signs. So he said to them: 'Do not associate anything with Allah, nor steal, nor commit unlawful intercourse, nor take a life which Allah has made prohibited prohibited, except for what is required (in the law), nor hasten to damage the reputation of one of power so that he will be killed, nor practice magic, nor consume Riba, nor falsely accuse the chaste woman, nor turn to flee on the day of the march, and for you Jews particularly, to not violate the Sabbath.' He said: So they kissed his hands and his feet, and they said: 'We bear witness that you are a Prophet.' So he (ﷺ) said: 'Then what prevents you from following me?' They said: 'Because Dawud supplicated to his Lord that his offspring never be devoid of Prophets and we feared that if we follow you then the Jews will kill us.'

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ إِدْرِيسَ، وَأَبُو أُسَامَةَ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ شُعْبَةَ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ عَسَّالٍ، قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قَالَ يَهُودِيٌّ لِصَاحِبِهِ اذْهَبْ بِنَا إِلَى هَذَا النَّبِيِّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ صَاحِبُهُ:‏‏‏‏ لَا تَقُلْ نَبِيٌّ إِنَّهُ لَوْ سَمِعَكَ كَانَ لَهُ أَرْبَعَةُ أَعْيُنٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَأَتَيَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَسَأَلَاهُ عَنْ تِسْعِ آيَاتٍ بَيِّنَاتٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ لَهُمْ:‏‏‏‏ لَا تُشْرِكُوا بِاللَّهِ شَيْئًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَا تَسْرِقُوا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَا تَزْنُوا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَا تَقْتُلُوا النَّفْسَ الَّتِي حَرَّمَ اللَّهُ إِلَّا بِالْحَقِّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَا تَمْشُوا بِبَرِيءٍ إِلَى ذِي سُلْطَانٍ لِيَقْتُلَهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَا تَسْحَرُوا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَا تَأْكُلُوا الرِّبَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَا تَقْذِفُوا مُحْصَنَةً، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَا تُوَلُّوا الْفِرَارَ يَوْمَ الزَّحْفِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَعَلَيْكُمْ خَاصَّةً الْيَهُودَ أَنْ لَا تَعْتَدُوا فِي السَّبْتِ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَقَبَّلُوا يَدَهُ وَرِجْلَهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَا:‏‏‏‏ نَشْهَدُ أَنَّكَ نَبِيٌّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَمَا يَمْنَعُكُمْ أَنْ تَتَّبِعُونِي ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالُوا:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّ دَاوُدَ دَعَا رَبَّهُ أَنْ لَا يَزَالَ فِي ذُرِّيَّتِهِ نَبِيٌّ وَإِنَّا نَخَافُ إِنْ تَبِعْنَاكَ أَنْ تَقْتُلَنَا الْيَهُودُ،‏‏‏‏ وفي الباب عن يَزِيدَ بْنِ الْأَسْوَدِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَابْنِ عُمَرَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَكَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ.

صفوان بن عسال رضی الله عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ ایک یہودی نے اپنے ساتھی سے کہا: چلو اس نبی کے پاس لے چلتے ہیں۔ اس کے ساتھی نے کہا ”نبی“ نہ کہو۔ ورنہ اگر انہوں نے سن لیا تو ان کی چار آنکھیں ہو جائیں گی، پھر وہ دونوں رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے پاس آئے، اور آپ سے ( موسیٰ علیہ السلام کو دی گئیں ) نو کھلی ہوئی نشانیوں کے متعلق پوچھا۔ آپ نے ان سے کہا ( ۱ ) کسی کو اللہ کا شریک نہ بناؤ ( ۲ ) چوری نہ کرو ( ۳ ) زنا نہ کرو ( ۴ ) ناحق کسی کو قتل نہ کرو ( ۵ ) کسی بےگناہ کو حاکم کے سامنے نہ لے جاؤ کہ وہ اسے قتل کر دے ( ۶ ) جادو نہ کرو ( ۷ ) سود مت کھاؤ ( ۸ ) پارسا عورت پر زنا کی تہمت مت لگاؤ ( ۹ ) اور دشمن سے مقابلے کے دن پیٹھ پھیر کر بھاگنے کی کوشش نہ کرو۔ اور خاص تم یہودیوں کے لیے یہ بات ہے کہ «سبت» ( سنیچر ) کے سلسلے میں حد سے آگے نہ بڑھو، ( آپ کا جواب سن کر ) انہوں نے آپ کے ہاتھ پیر چومے اور کہا: ہم گواہی دیتے ہیں کہ آپ نبی ہیں۔ آپ نے فرمایا: ”پھر تمہیں میری پیروی کرنے سے کیا چیز روکتی ہے؟“ انہوں نے کہا: داود علیہ السلام نے اپنے رب سے دعا کی تھی کہ ان کی اولاد میں ہمیشہ کوئی نبی رہے۔ اس لیے ہم ڈرتے ہیں کہ اگر ہم نے آپ کی اتباع ( پیروی ) کی تو یہودی ہمیں مار ڈالیں گے۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: ۱- یہ حدیث حسن صحیح ہے، ۲- اس باب میں یزید بن اسود، ابن عمر اور کعب بن مالک رضی الله عنہم سے بھی احادیث آئی ہیں۔

Narrated 'Ali: that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: There are six courtesies due from a Muslim to another Muslim: To give Salam to him when he meets him, to accept his invitation when he invites him, to reply to him when he sneezes, to visit him when he is ill, to follow his funeral when he dies, and to love for him what he loves for himself.

Narrated Abu Hurairah: that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: There are six things due from the believer to another believer: Visiting him when he is ill, attending (his funeral) to him when he dies, accepting his invitation when he invites, giving him Salam when he meets him, replying to him when he sneezes, and wishing him well when he is absent and when he is present.

Narrated Hadrami, the freed slave of the family of Al-Jarud: from Nafi: A man sneezed beside Ibn 'Umar and said: 'Al-Hamdulillah Was-Salamu 'Ala Rasulillah. (All praise is due to Allah, and peace upon the Messenger of Allah)'. So Ibn 'Umar said: 'I too say Al-Hamdulillah Was-Salamu 'Ala Rasulillah, but this is not what the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) taught us. He taught us to say: Al-Hamdulillah 'Ala Kulli Hal (All praise is due to Allah in every circumstance)

Narrated Abu Musa: The Jews used to sneeze in the presence of the Prophet (ﷺ) hoping that he would say: 'Yarhamukumullah (May Allah have mercy upon you).' So he said: 'Yahdikumullahu Wa Yuslihu Balakum (May Allah guide you and rectify your affairs).'
