Narrated Asma bint Yazid: that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) passed through the Masjid one day, and a group of women were sitting, so he motioned his hand with the Salam - 'Abdul-Hamid (one of the narrators) gestured with his hand.

حَدَّثَنَا سُوَيْدٌ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الْحَمِيدِ بْنُ بَهْرَامَ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ شَهْرَ بْنَ حَوْشَبٍ، يَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ سَمِعْتُ أَسْمَاءَ بِنْتَ يَزِيدَ تُحَدِّثُ،‏‏‏‏ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَرَّ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ يَوْمًا وَعُصْبَةٌ مِنَ النِّسَاءِ قُعُودٌ فَأَلْوَى بِيَدِهِ بِالتَّسْلِيمِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَشَارَ عَبْدُ الْحَمِيدِ بِيَدِهِ ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ حَنْبَلٍ لَا بَأْسَ بِحَدِيثِ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ بْنِ بَهْرَامَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ شَهْرِ بْنِ حَوْشَبٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَالَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيل:‏‏‏‏ شَهْرٌ حَسَنُ الْحَدِيثِ،‏‏‏‏ وَقَوَّى أَمْرَهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّمَا تَكَلَّمَ فِيهِ ابْنُ عَوْنٍ ثُمَّ رَوَى عَنْ هِلَالِ بْنِ أَبِي زَيْنَبَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ شَهْرِ بْنِ حَوْشَبٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنْبَأَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ الْمَصَاحِفِيُّ بَلْخِيٌّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَخْبَرَنَا النَّضْرُ بْنُ شُمَيْلٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ ابْنِ عَوْنٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّ شَهْرًا نَزَكُوهُ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُدَ:‏‏‏‏ قَالَ النَّضْرُ:‏‏‏‏ نَزَكُوهُ أَيْ طَعَنُوا فِيهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَإِنَّمَا طَعَنُوا فِيهِ لِأَنَّهُ وَلِيَ أَمْرَ السُّلْطَانِ.

اسماء بنت یزید رضی الله عنہا بیان کرتی ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ایک دن مسجد میں گزرے وہاں عورتوں کی ایک جماعت بیٹھی ہوئی تھی، چنانچہ آپ نے انہیں اپنے ہاتھ کے اشارے سے سلام کیا ۱؎۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: ۱- یہ حدیث حسن ہے، ۲- عبدالحمید ( راوی ) نے بھی پتے ہاتھ سے اشارہ کیا ( کہ اس طرح ) ، ۳- احمد بن حنبل کہتے ہیں: شہر بن حوشب کے واسطہ سے عبدالحمید بن بہرام کی روایت میں کوئی حرج نہیں ہے، ۴- محمد بن اسماعیل بخاری کہتے ہیں: شہر حسن الحدیث ہیں اور ان کو روایت حدیث میں قوی بخاری کہتے ہیں: ان کے بارے میں ابن عون نے کلام کیا ہے۔ ابن عون کہتے ہیں: «إن شهرا نزكوه» کے واسطہ سے کہا: شہر کی شخصیت کو محدثین نے داغ دار بتایا ہے۔ ابوداؤد کہتے ہیں کہ نضر کہتے ہیں «نزكوه» کا مطلب یہ ہے کہ «طعنوا فيه» یعنی ان کی شخصیت کو داغ دار بتایا ہے، اور لوگوں نے ان پر جرح اس لیے کی ہے کہ وہ سلطان ( حکومت ) کے ملازم بن گئے ہیں۔

Narrated Anas: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said to me: 'O my little son! When you enter upon your family then give the Salam, it will be a blessing for you and upon the inhabitants of your house.

Narrated Jabir bin 'Abdullah: that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: The Salam is before talking. With this chain it has been reported that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: Do not invite anyone to the food until the Salam is given.

Narrated Abu Hurairah: that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Do not precede the Jews and the Christians with the Salam. And if one of you meets them in the path, then force them to its narrow portion.

Narrated 'Aishah: that a group of Jews entered upon the Prophet (ﷺ) and they said: As-Samu 'Alaik (death be upon you). So the Prophet (ﷺ) said: Wa 'Alaik (And upon you). So 'Aishah said: I said: '[Rather] upon you be death and the curse.' So the Prophet (ﷺ) said: O 'Aishah! Indeed Allah loves gentleness in every matter. 'Aishah said: Did you not hear what they said? He said: And I replied: 'And upon you.'

Narrated Usamah bin Zaid: that the Prophet (ﷺ) passed by a gathering in which the Muslims and the Jews were mixed, so he gave the Salam to them.

Narrated Al-Hasan: from Abu Hurairah that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: The rider gives the Salam to the walking person, and the walking person to the sitting person and the few to the many. Ibn Al-Muthanna added in his narration: And the young one gives the Salam to the elder.
