Umm Salamah narrated: The time of waiting for Nifas during the time of AIlah's Messenger was forty days. We used to cover our faces with reddish-brown Wars.

حَدَّثَنَا نَصْرُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْجَهْضَمِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا شُجَاعُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ أَبُو بَدْرٍ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى، عَنْ أَبِي سَهْلٍ، عَنْ مُسَّةَ الْأَزْدِيَّةِ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ قَالَتْ:‏‏‏‏ كَانَتِ النُّفَسَاءُ تَجْلِسُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَرْبَعِينَ يَوْمًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَكُنَّا نَطْلِي وُجُوهَنَا بِالْوَرْسِ مِنَ الْكَلَفِ . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ هَذَا غَرِيبٌ نَعْرِفُهُ إِلَّا مِنْ حَدِيثِ أَبِي سَهْلٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ مُسَّةَ الْأَزْدِيَّةِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَاسْمُ أَبِي سَهْلٍ:‏‏‏‏ كَثِيرُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيل:‏‏‏‏ عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى ثِقَةٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَبُو سَهْلٍ ثِقَةٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَمْ يَعْرِفْ مُحَمَّدٌ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ إِلَّا مِنْ حَدِيثِ أَبِي سَهْلٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَدْ أَجْمَعَ أَهْلُ الْعِلْمِ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَالتَّابِعِينَ وَمَنْ بَعْدَهُمْ عَلَى أَنَّ النُّفَسَاءَ تَدَعُ الصَّلَاةَ أَرْبَعِينَ يَوْمًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏إِلَّا أَنْ تَرَى الطُّهْرَ قَبْلَ ذَلِكَ فَإِنَّهَا تَغْتَسِلُ وَتُصَلِّي، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَإِذَا رَأَتِ الدَّمَ بَعْدَ الْأَرْبَعِينَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَإِنَّ أَكْثَرَ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالُوا:‏‏‏‏ لَا تَدَعُ الصَّلَاةَ بَعْدَ الْأَرْبَعِينَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَهُوَ قَوْلُ أَكْثَرِ الْفُقَهَاءِ،‏‏‏‏ وَبِهِ يَقُولُ سُفْيَانُ الثَّوْرِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَابْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَالشَّافِعِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَحْمَدُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَإِسْحَاق، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَيُرْوَى عَنْ الْحَسَنِ الْبَصْرِيِّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّهُ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّهَا تَدَعُ الصَّلَاةَ خَمْسِينَ يَوْمًا إِذَا لَمْ تَرَ الطُّهْرَ وَيُرْوَى عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ أَبِي رَبَاحٍ،‏‏‏‏ وَالشَّعْبِيِّ سِتِّينَ يَوْمًا.

ام المؤمنین ام سلمہ رضی الله عنہا کہتی ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی الله علیہ وسلم کے زمانے میں نفاس والی عورتیں چالیس دن تک بیٹھی رہتی تھیں، اور جھائیوں کے سبب ہم اپنے چہروں پر ورس ( نامی گھاس ہے ) ملتی تھیں۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: ۱- یہ حدیث غریب ہے، اسے ہم صرف ابوسہل ہی کی روایت سے جانتے ہیں، ۲- صحابہ کرام، تابعین اور ان کے بعد کے لوگوں میں سے تمام اہل علم کا اس امر پر اجماع ہے کہ نفاس والی عورتیں چالیس دن تک نماز نہیں پڑھیں گی۔ البتہ اگر وہ اس سے پہلے پاک ہو لیں تو غسل کر کے نماز پڑھنے لگ جائیں، اگر چالیس دن کے بعد بھی وہ خون دیکھیں تو اکثر اہل علم کا کہنا ہے کہ چالیس دن کے بعد وہ نماز نہ چھوڑیں، یہی اکثر فقہاء کا قول ہے۔ سفیان ثوری، ابن مبارک، شافعی، احمد اور اسحاق بن راہویہ بھی یہی کہتے ہیں۔ حسن بصری کہتے ہیں کہ پچاس دن تک نماز چھوڑے رہے جب وہ پاکی نہ دیکھے، عطاء بن ابی رباح اور شعبی سے ساٹھ دن تک مروی ہے۔

Anas narrated: Allah's Messenger would go around to his women with one Ghusl.

Hisham bin Urwah narrated from his father, (Urwah) from Abdullah bin AI-Arqam. : He (Urwah) said: While standing for the prayer he (Abdullah bin Al-Arqam) took a man by the hand leading him forward, he (Abdullah) was in front of the people, and he said: 'I heard Allah's Messenger say: When standing for the prayer and one of you finds that he has to relieve himself then let him relieve himself first.

Abdur-Rahman bin Awf's Umm Walad said, : I said to Umm Salamah: 'Indeed I am a woman with lengthy hems, and I walk in places of filth.' So she said: 'Allah's Messenger said: It is purified by what comes after it.

Ammar bin Yasir narrated that : the Prophet ordered him to perform Tayammum by rubbing his face and two palms.

Ikrimah narrated that : Ibn Abbas was asked ahout Tayammum. He said: When Allah mentioned Wudu in His Book, He said: So wash your faces and your hands (forearms) up to the elbows. And He said about Tayammum: And rub therewith your faces and hands And He said: And the male thief and the female thief; cut off their hands. So the Sunnah for cutting is the two hands. So it is only the face and the hands, meaning, Tayammum.
